World's worst gardener?

So, Today I have a lot of stuff to talk about. I don’t think my garden is doing too well :(
Just for background info, I am in zone 6a, and my garden is getting full to dappled sun and it is getting sun all day. I water pretty much daily unless it rains. We got the soil it is in right now from a compost pile at our transfer station. I noticed that my garden is way behind everyone elses :(

So all of my garden was started from seed. I bought most of the seeds in April, sowed them indoors and planted them in mid-May.

Whats doing good:

This is broccoli…oddly enough, this one and a few others are huge, and other ones are an inch long.

I think the tomatoes are doing ok

This was a purchase and it is doing awesome!

This Basil was getting eaten alive so I moved it to the garden

Cilantro

Morning glories that we just threw in a pot in front of our home that grew like crazy!

I also wanted to try growing ginger so I threw it in a pot and its growing!

This is my Timothy grass for my rabbit. It is doing great and he loves it.

Then I have wheatgrass for my rabbit

And Red Clover

What’s not doing doing good:

We threw in a couple of butterfly and hummingbirds mixes. Of course I know they aren’t going to be beautiful and full the first year…but I feel like they all grew super quick, about a half to 2 inches long, and then stopped growing. They get full sun part of the day, the partial shade. Is that normal?

Flowers

Cosmos, very small and low to the ground

More flowers

These are morning glories. They have been stepped on a little by the neighbors. Do they look like they will make it?

This is a Dwarf Pomegranate tree. It hasn’t grown in a while…should I bring it back inside …move it to full sun?? (I know it isn’t hardy in 6a, I just have it out cause it is sooo hot here!)

Seedlings I.D. – If you are a pro:

I had to transplant a lot of stuff in my garden that was stepped on by a neighborhood dog :( He is a big guys so all the tiny little fragile seedlings weren’t doing to good.

Veggies:
1.

2.

3.
Carrots?

4.

Flowers:

5.
Cleome? Catchfly?

Herbs:

6.
Sage?

7.

Thanks so much! And laugh all you want at my garden :P

Cleaning up #2: Backyard

This is my first landscaping/gardening/backyard makeover experience so any advice is very very welcome.

My backyard in its original state:

And this is what it looks like at the moment…those of you who have done this type of landscaping yourself know how much work goes into it!! It does need some more cleaning up but I’m close!! Once everything is grown I will post again. But for now I am just looking for ideas to improve it!

Next to the back doors…fine herbs and flowers.

Overview of everything—- On the left vegetable garden and Red clover for my rabbit. On the right flowers, timothy hay, wheathgrass and peas, daylilies.

Peas

Garden

Grilling station!

There’s lavender in there

Cleome and morning glories

Bench with fines herbs behind it, english ivy

Litlle eating bar, needs cleaning though

Other side of the house…untouched. I don’t know what to do there!

Going up to my gazebo

This is a gift that was left to us by the past tenants hmm. When everything is out it will be a compost pile.

View from up there

I don’t know what to do with all this nature…ideas?

Tree I.D.? I know it’s hard to see sorry :(

Peaking on my neighbors beautiful backyard

And the piece the resistance..My gazebo and almost tree house. Any ideas of easy flowers that I don’t require much care? I can’t really go up there every day cause it’s quite a hike but I’d like to have flowers all around it.

The best place to see details is my flickr, I wrote notes over most of the pictures. http://flickr.com/photos/couleurvanille/

This is our first house and we are thrilled to be able to garden, but it is a lot of work. This is what we have done so far, since we both work it’s taking a bit of time. We are also on a tight budget so we are growing every single thing from seed.
