Welcome to GT. I note from your description in your garden, that your wife, Pam, has a lot of brugmansia. I, too, have quite a few of these beauties. We would love to learn more about gardening in Arlington, and also to see some of your photos of your gardens, and those of Pam’s as well.

That crown of thorns photo is amazing. Thanks for showing it.

I note that the Brugmanisa Growers International is calling itself international. Are they shipping cuttings across the border? How do they handle this? I have had an interest in some from the US or from Germany, but they are hard to get into the country, legally.

Good morning !
You’re right about the difficulties of “spreading the wealth” when it comes to sharing/shipping live cuttings.
Those require a phyto certificate which is quite expensive, and therefore usually limited to established nurseries. Without a phyto, we cannot ship cuttings.
However, it’s still legal to freely send out seeds and even pollen. We have seed and pollen banks, and a subscribed member is eligible for free choices among those donations, regardless of where they are on the globe.
We DO have MANY Canadian, British, Australian, Belgian, Finnish, and even (one) Japanese members. :-)
Btw, Craig and I both grew up in Port Huron, Michigan, across the Blue Water bridges from Sarnia ONT.
I really miss the lovely soils up there. We’re constantly amending our nasty clay down here… bliggh.
‘Crown of Thorns’ IS one of the prettiest of the 2008 seedlings, isn’t she ?? We are registering several newly named varieties each month. I’m honored to say that some of the most conscientous and dedicated hybridizers are actually our friends .. hehe. Gotta love ‘em. I stink at that part. :-(
I’m still figuring out how one can upload pics, here. I don’t have any brug-dedicated Photobucket albums.. mostly family ones.. HAHA. Maybe I’ll work one up with just my brugs/gardens.
Have a super Thursday.
