Seed Saving #2: Dont thow away that xmas paper!

« Part 1: Saving Seeds Part 2 of Seed Saving series no next part

If you’re not ready to run out and buy seed envelopes, make your own beautiful seed envelopes by recycling that xmas papper…Great fun on a stormy evening for the whole family.

Beautiful christmas paper should not end up in the landfill. It is always exciting to see the lovely handmade envelopes that get sent to me when trading seeds.

I sketched up a diagram on how you can make your own simple self-closing seed pocket.

Enjoy!

ah ha!!! Not only do we get a seed packet idea but I see some future activity for this site: seed sharing.
SOOO… we are planning ahead.

This is wonderful. Thanks for the idea. I’ll be saving my paper.

Hey, thanks for this how to! – one of the few I didn’t learn back in grade school. (we were all too hung up on the cranes, boxes, leaping frogs and throwing stars!)

I just realized that these will be great to wrap my “stars” in that I made recently. Cool

The end product is quite small 1.5” – 2” square so if you need them for larger objects start with a larger piece of paper perhaps even 12”.

very neat X!
Any paper can be recycled this way!
And, depending how many types of seeds, colors of plants, annuals, veg…. you could make them color coded!

Using pages of old seed catalogues works well too and if you are patient enough you could actually cut out a square with the picture of the plant you are filling the seeds with and fold it so it faces outward on the back ;)
