Hi everyone! Rick & I live in Kentwood, MI which is just south of Grand Rapids. We have a single-wide in a very nice mobile home park. The park is very relaxed in what we are allowed to do in our yards.
Our house in on a corner which gives us more room to garden as well as more lawn to mow! I'm pretty satisfied with the street side of the house although I'd love to expand the garden to cut down on the lawn.
Basically I have 3 seperate gardens. The one on the street side that I just mentioned, one on the side & along the top of the driveway, and a smaller one in the back of our yard next to our shed.
I am working on changing the back garden. I've pulled out all the daylilies & iris. The family who had our lot before must have loved daylilies! The iris have been transplanted to the garden by the driveway. I think I'm going with daisies & coneflowers.
In the spring we will be tearing out the grass in front of the house & laying some sort of gravel, rocks, & blue mulch to make a river scene. I am looking for a yard lighthouse. I'll put some small bushes, maybe holly, for green.
My problem is the garden by the driveway. I like the plants & flowers but I can't seem to find a mulch that stays pretty. I'm thinking of going with the blue mulch & see how that works.
I'll take pictures on a nice day & post them.
Bye!

I am curious about the blue mulch. What is it? Blue stone?

Hi jroot!
Actually I don’t know. I’ve seen it at a small excavating/landscape materials place in Grand Rapids. It looks like mulch but my hubby thinks/hopes it’s a shredded rubber-based material. Whatever it is, it has kept it’s color all summer. I’ll stop in & find out.
I was thinking of doing blue stone for my “river” but I think mulch/rubber would make my “water” look more active.
