I have gardened since I was 8 years old, I am now 43. Unfortunately I did not garden EVERY year in that time.

I started out as a veggie gardener first. I grow everything now: veggies, fruit, flowers, herbs, even shrubs and trees. I like starting things from seed--even if it is difficult.

I am interested in preserving garden vegetable varieties. I am also interested in sending seed to those in need.

More later...

Well, after feeling pretty good about getting seeds planted: peas (2 types), carrots, lettuce, radishes, I have come to Vermont to visit my sister whose yard is 4 feet under snow! It is snowing and beautiful, but I will be happy to return to spring and my planting.

OK, I want to do a blog on here, but I do not even know what an RSS feed is.

Also, would mentioning the state of the food supply and the FDA be too off topic for this site?

Is there a rules page for the blogs here? Anything I type would be family friendly, of course, but it is opinion for this topic.

Please let me know,
Robin

here’s my suggestion: post and see what the response is like :)
It’s YOUR blog.
is it gardening/ veggies / flowers related? Works for me!
And then we always get off topic once in a while to expand our wisdom! :)

Boy, I think I will claim another day as my birthday. The temps have gone up 20 degrees F in a week. It sapped my strength. I didn’t get much done. However, my neighbor loaned me her digital camera, and I hope to get the pictures in my e-mail soon. When I do, I’ll post.
Thanks for the well-wishes!

Ugh!
Sweltering heat. From the low 60F’s (about 16C) pretty much steady up to this point, to 90F (32C).

Yesterday, I sold eggs & plants at the edge of my yard, and I made $30 USD. Basically the chickens paid for their own food this week. I got 2 bags of layer pellets, and 1 bag of corn. I sold 8 dozen eggs and raspberry and strawberry plants. I was out there for 4 hours, but I was able to mow between customers.

Today I will be there (in the shade) for 2 hours.

I will probably do this each weekend, as my chickens and gardens need to pay their own expenses now.

It is already stifling outside here before 9am!

Well, I have to go out and do stuff before the air becomes unbreathable for working.

One reprieve: the tree that fell… My daughter reports it is cooler under there! Of course that means I must wait until this heat wave is over to do anything about it, HA!

Off I go. If you hear on the news of someone in Massachusetts melting, that would be me!

I was thinking how funny … cuz just a few weeks ago we were all complaining about the cold. This crazy weather just seems to be going from one extreme to the other … cold and unbearably hot and humid. I long for a few days in the low 80’s (F) and no humidity.

Guess the only good thing is it seems to be raining with all this heat/humidity. We had two good storms; one late last night and early this morning. At least nothing needs to be watered …

And for us gals … so how long do you have to stand outside in this heat/humidity to “drip off” a pound or two??? hahahahaha!!!!!

And, Robin I am so thrilled your roadside stand is doing soooo well!!!!! :-)

Debbie,
I know what you mean. When it gets bad, I tell the kids I’m homicidal, and they know what that is. Sweaty you know. It actually makes me a little cranky. BUTT, gardening is worth it isn’t it?

Boy, has it been a long time. Have had a tough year personally, but I look forward to getting back into the swing of things.

If anyone here is on facebook, please look me up there: Robin Marble. You’ll know it is me because I use the same robin photo that I do here.

I haven’t started outdoor winter sowing yet, but I have about 40 key lime plants growing! They are just seedlings, but many are putting out their first true leaves!
