« Part 4: Naturalizing Mycelium using Cardboard Part 5 of Mushrooms series Part 6: Final bloom from the Mushroom Kit »

Life has been busy, so this will be a short post to say that we enjoyed our second harvest from the two oyster mushroom kits. This time we enjoyed it on our home-made pizza as well as over pasta. The second harvest was a little smaller than the first, although still quite generous, and it took a little longer for the mushrooms to form. I have no complaints, however; they were as delicious as the first time!

They look tastey!

What fun you and the boys have had growing these mushrooms. And to have such a good tasting produce in the bargain. Good job!

Thank you for all your comments. It has been such a fun and easy project so I think you should all try it and get started as serious mushroom gardeners. : ) After each harvest, we simply tape up the existing hole we made, turn the bag so a new side faces the sun and we create a new hole. I have ditched the paper bags because they are cumbersome. An old dishtowel tucked snugly around the back and sides seems to work as well and is easier to use.

Thank you for the link, Debbie; no, I had not seen it yet. If my life doesn’t get too crazy, one of my mushroom-related projects this spring is to inoculate some logs. We had to cut down some trees that were heavily damaged in our October snowstorm and I have piled up some elm and oak logs to inoculate in April. If I can, I will write up an entry about it.

Then I will give it my best effort to write up an entry, Jroot.
