I have been a Roofing Contractor for over 30 years. I have been gardening for many years with a few breaks from year to year. About two years ago I purchased 5 acres for my business and wood working shop. Outside my wood shop I have my vegetable garden, being in California I try to have something growing all year round. I also have about 50 Almond trees, not much of a farmer, so I don't harvest them commercially just share them with family and friends. I also enjoy roses and have planted them along my driveway fence, which is about 600 hundred feet long, still planting until they are all the way down.

I’ a little jealous of the ability to have things growing all year round but then I do like the break from gardening as well….

600 ft of roses…wow. I’m with Deb…jealous. I don’t think I’ll be visiting though. While I love the look of roses I’m sensitive to the fragrance. I get awful headaches. Do you have to battle with japanese beetles?

I have not filled in the 600 feet yet, they follow the fence line. I buy a few plants every now and then. I will take some pictures some are still in bloom. My wood working time is priority now for Christmas.

The beetles, I have a beetle, May be Japanese, comes in the spring, usually on one or two plants. A bucket of water next to the plant attract them and they drown. Next spring I will seek more help with them other than poison.
