I am a music teacher and a mother of 4 boys. I'm working hard to create a beautiful garden despite the rocky earth(can't really call it soil) and the harsh Texas sun.

Welcome QueenBee!
My daughter teaches high school music.
sounds like a challenge you have there -with the rocks and the sun. But where there’s a will, there’s a way!

Welcome!!
Our grown children have all found their way to Arizona … we were out there for the first time this summer. Being from Michigan I found the landscaping beautiful but oh so different from what I know and have experienced. This may be a “stupid question”, but is Texas somewhat like Arizona as far as gardening would go? I was amazed that plants could survive in such heat (and rock). I am looking forward to hearing about your gardening … what plants you pick, how you handle watering, do you have a “seasonal” time to plant like we do in the north, etc.

I live just north of Austin, where it is hilly and green. Our soil basically consists of limestone, so while we are not deserty, we also miss out on some of the beautiful plants that are normally associated with southern gardens, but need more acid soil.
On the plus side, we can garden all year round. I just finished setting out my pansies, snap dragons and ornamental cabbages.
As to watering, I just got my November water bill….aaah, it was the highest of the year! How can that be? Granted we had an unusually wet summer, and I was watering a bit to get my winter lawn going, but it was still a shock.
