I am guessing the orchids and azaleas are in your greenhouse, right? We have small patches of grass sticking through the snow in places but more snow is in the forecast by the weekend. Hang in there, spring is coming.

I can imagine how eagerly you are all waiting for spring. Wish all your seeds sprout well ready for transplant when spring arrives.

Good Morning!
11 more days !
Went to the Vietnamese Grocery to get 3 bunches of sweet potato leaves. I removed the leaves and the stalks are now soaking in water to root them.

Good idea, Orchids77. I have a sweet potato vine from last year growing in my window. I’m going to try this. Do you dip the ends in any growth hormone bf planting?

One can get taro plants there also, which grow to be similar to elephant ears, – only a little smaller. ... and you can eat the bub. One has to learn how though.

Iris.. no I don’t . I just wait for the roots to develop and plant them in the garden or barrel planter.
Jroot.. I will have to look for the taro plant . Do they sell the bulb ?
MSDeb.. I was thinking of the” planting itch” while I was trimming the bamboo and Peace plants in the dining room.
Found 2 cymbidium pots with 5 inch stalks with buds ,while I was watering the plants in the green house.Yey! Spring is coming! Spring is coming.:)

If you like ginger, you can plant ginger in a similar way. Start with a piece of fresh ginger from the market that is at least 2 or 3 inches long and bears several buds or eyes. Plant in a shallow, wide pot of moist potting mix. Bury the rhizome shallowly, covering it with 1-2 inches of soil. Keep the soil moist in a warm, well-lit area but out of direct sunlight. It will grow tall quickly and look similar to a bamboo plant.

Yes, Orchids, what you want is the taro bulb. Look for eyes on the bulb when you purchase. The more eyes, the more foliage you will get. They look good in pots, and their roots are not very deep so they can readily be removed in the fall. They do like water though, so you will have to keep the soil moist during the summer. They do tend to take a long time to get going, – until the temperature is hotter, but when they come, they really come. :)
