Part 1: Spring Walk-about

March 16/10 This afternoon Rick and I did a walk-about around the property to check on our trees. It was nice to see the little red signs of spring growth on most of the trees. However—dat darned wabbit—the pawpaw tree is gone (that’s our second attempt), the three heartnut trees are gone, the fringe tree is half-gone, a special sumac tree is gone. Oh and my blueberries – they are still there but they’ve been pruned really, really well. Dat darned wabbit. ...

After Scott posted photos from his walkabout i thought I’d do the same. A muscle in my shoulder is telling me that I’ve lugged enough dirt for a while and to take a relaxing day. So I am. here’s the link to the slideshow of photos. for some reason I keep seeing the “un-organized” version of the slideshow here in this post…. but it’s updated in the link version (above)... who’s messing with my mind? !!! Here’s the “mutated&#...

Part 3: May 7/10

In-between rains I went outside and took a few pictures … and I also took some great shots of my yard from my upstairs windows. My daughter and son-in-law were living upstairs and have just bought a house and moved out. I now have access to my entire upstairs—yippee. (and I’ve done a little redecorating. I hope to get some pix posted on HomeRefurbers soon… I’ll let you know in case you are interested). Anyway… check out this picture of my front yard a...

BEFORE I started doing some work today I went for a walkabout and took some photos for you :) 1. Osage Orange I thought I’d show you the lovely “spike”—and that’s why Rick “LOVES” this tree when he’s cutting grass. 2. CherriesThis year we are going to have tons of cherries to share with the birds. 3. RedbudThis is the how big the leaves are now… 4. Tulip TreeI think we’ve given up on getting flowers on this tree. I had ...

A little “walkabout” from this afternoon. I spent most of my afternoon tackling bindweed – argh… and to make up for the frustration I took my camera out and focused on some of the good stuff in the yard. A sculpture in my labyrinth Rue Egyptian Walking Onion Celery – flowering from plants left in from last year Pond Fish(from left to right: Timfish; Jennfish; Goldie; Number 1) Upper Pond Sculpture in River (one of two penguins) Down The Ri...

Part 6: July 21, 10

This is a quick walk-about .. well I didn’t really walk quickly – there weren’t TOO many mosquitoes out there so I enjoyed my time (as long as I was in the shade). Anyway, I wanted to share these as well as document them for next year to see how the garden changes. I think we spend most of our outdoor time checking out the frogs – seeing where they are hiding and how many are visiting. Here, two of them are sharing a rock. ComfreySee the big leaves? That’...

What a beautiful day, today is!! I’ve spent a lot of time in the gardens today, pulling some weeds, transplanting some things, and just “looking”. Another Butterfly(I don’t know the species. This one was on my butterfly bush) WatermelonIt is fascinating to see h...

Part 9: but no pictures

32 days ago by MsDebbieP | 7 comments »

Aug 6/10 Today I spent some time outside doing a little of this and a little of that. I didn’t take my camera out, unfortunately, so at this point in time you’ll just have to imagine! 1. SilverbellsRick found this and pointed it out to me. On the Silverbell tree are some seed pods. They look like mini.. hmmm.. what are those “star fruit” thingies?? They are really cool to look at and perhaps I’d be able to start a new tree with them?!! 2. Wasp NestI̵...

Part 11: September 3, 2010

4 days ago by MsDebbieP | 14 comments »

What a beautiful day outside today – no humidity factor, not too hot and relatively no mosquitoes! I went outside to do one little thing and ended up taking a walkabout around the front yard. While I was out there I pulled bindweed (argh) from my raised bed—can you believe it? It found its way into my new strawberry bed. I also had to cover up plant roots after the chickens from next door dug out some bugs, I guess. There are now 11 chickens out and about. Earlier today ther...
