Feb. 7/08
I was headed upstairs to do some housework and out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of the sun glistening on the ice/snow covered trees.
I quickly changed my plans (oh how hard it was to avoid housework) and grabbed my camera. These are (again) taken from my front door, looking out over my yard.

Just thought I’d share my morning smile with you.
(oh and in the centre bottom of the picture is a “rock” garden. The rock showed up in our laneway when we were having some work done. It has some … doh can’t remember the name.. simple name.. argh… flowers.. and some chives around it. And last year I plated a “silver bells” tree at this side of it. )

best time of the day :)
I’m up before 5; get the fire going and coffee made and when Rick comes downstairs, we get to enjoy a beautiful quiet time together in front of the fire..

haha re: tearing myself away.. Yes, true grit; that’s what I’m made of!!!
thanks re: kind words about my photos.
I’ve thought about it.. but that’s as far as it goes. There are just so many photographers out there who are SO much better than me…...

that is true.
I have had a few discussions about “it”. What is “it” that makes a great photo?
Many photographers that I have spoken with don’t know what “it” is and say that they don’t want to waste their time trying to figure it out. Many of these photographers create photos that definitely have the “it” factor.
Wouldn’t it be great if we knew what “it” was and then could work at including it in our photos rather than just hoping it has the desired result?
But.. that’s a whole other discussion.. I can however relate that to gardens: what is “it” that makes a beautiful garden?
For me, it is natural, full, with gentle unstructured lines to it. “It” is soothing.

Very Interesting MsD…We were of the same mind this morning…I was doing the same thing…capturing the sunrise in my garden :) Its just wonderful…magical actually to be up early when everything is so quiet and just watch the light cast across the trees in the crisp winter air and feshly fallen snow.
I love that silver thaw you have…so pretty.

No wolves here in NL :) Coyotes tho…but I have yet to hear one howl.
I mostly hear the gulls and ravens.

how exciting!
Twice, this past summer, we heard a pack of coyotes talking to each other in the cornfield beside the neighbour’s. That was exciting! What a beautiful sound.
Once, while Rick and I were out for a drive we saw a wolf walking along the edge of a field/woods. He stopped to check us out and then stepped slowly in the brush at the edge of the woods. With each step he faded into the environment and within just a few steps he had disappeared. We knew that he was still standing right there but we could not see him. It was just like in the movie “A Field of Dreams” where the baseball players stepped into the cornfield.
It’s just so inspiring to observe wildlife.
(thanks for kind words re: the photos)
