A Sad Day

Note: This isn’t garden related.

We had to say goodbye to our cat “Gizmo” this morning. At 8:00 I left the house and he was at his dish eating. At 8:30 I get a call from Rick that there is something wrong. He heard the cat making a terrible meow and when he found him, the cat seemed to be paralyzed.

We took him to the vet and after a few tests they still didn’t know what was wrong and Gizmo’s temperature kept dropping even though they had him laying on a heating pad. I called my daughter (her cat) and told her that she would have to make that big decision. (The bill thus far was already about $250).

Anyway, after making the decision she called me back to read me her horoscope for the day. It went something like this: Today you will have to do a hard task. Sometimes it is better to get rid of something than try and fix it. And so, with it “in the stars” we said good-bye to our furry little friend.

We still don’t know what was wrong. X-ray showed nothing except that all of his internal stuff was all sitting on one side of his body.

Fish are much easier to say good-bye to.

MsDebbie,
I am so sorry to hear about Gizmo !It is really hard to say goodbye at any point in time but the way it just happen, so abruptly, so fast is unbearable!
My thoughts are with you all! Just know that if you want to talk about him, you just have to open your puter and we are all there for you!

going through a lot of kleenex today.

I just got off the phone with my daughter. She has been away at University for the past several weeks so she hasn’t even had time to see him / pet him… so, yah.. it’s tough.

thanks everyone.

My heart cries with you … I am sooooo very sorry Deb at the loss of your beloved Gizmo. It is so difficult to make a decision like that; I know we faced a similar decision this past winter with my beloved Tabbie. The only comfort here is you know that Gizmo knew he was a very loved kitty. And I like to think there is a special place in heaven for our much loved and very missed companions.

as Jenn says, (my daughter) well at least we didn’t come home and find him squished on the road .. or he didn’t die somewhere where never would have found him.. at least this way we know.

I am so sorry for you and you family Deb.
Loosing a pet is a tremendous blow.

Try to think about all the good things you had together and that you gave your animal a decent life.

Sincerely
Bob

My condolences, Deb. It’s hard, but Gizmo had a good, well-loved life.

Yes, we’d already saved him once… not sure if I said this already; we first found him as a wee little kitten trying to cross a 4-lane highway. He was as wide as he was long but once we picked him up we found that it was all fur—he was skin and bone underneath.
That was about 6 years ago.

I’m so very sorry to hear about Gizmo MsD.We had a similar situation last Oct. and had to have our cat put down. Such a hard thing to do.We were pretty sure it was the Iams food thing.Same symptoms and that was what we always fed her. Then 3rd week of Nov.Kallie came to our door starving and looking for someone to love. Well that is the same “Kallie Flower ” from my blog.Love her so much. She’s the friendliest cat I have ever seen. She loves everyone. :-)

Sorry to hear the news

bury it deep

I didnt and the dog dug it up

a fate worse then hell itself when all her friends are over and it was her cat that died and my dog who retrieved it.

Once again….........sorry for your loss

I’m undecided about “another”. We were catless for so long and it was nice not to have to worry about cats—able to come and go whenever we wanted.. no vets, no deaths…

Debbie: For whatever it’s worth, before we lost our last dog to heart disease I spent the better part of 2 grand on medicine and vet bills for his last year.
That dog became so much a part of our lives that we had to temper every holiday and every trip even to the store around “Woody”.
I guess I would do it agian in a heart beat but , our lives are less complicated now and it’s really hard to take that kind of responsibiltiy on again.

that’s how I feel…. would love one but also love not having one…. if I find a kitten at the side of the road again, I’ll be saving its life and bringing it home, but I’m not going looking for a new kitty.
And we do have Jasmine still.. she just doesn’t have that same connection to my heart strings but she’s a cat and I love having a cat around.

Oh MsD, I’m so sorry to hear about your loss! I also know what you mean when you say Jasmine doesn’t have the same ‘connection’ to your heartstrings. But perhaps that will happen eventually———-although that may be a hard wish for you as it certainly breaks your heart when they have to go.
I am sure you will find some comfort knowing that you gave Gizmo a happy and contented life. What more does a cat ask for? My thoughts are with you.
