July 1, 2008
shhhh! Don’t tell Martin (founder of our sites) but I’ve been outside working on my gardens when I should have been finishing the “now overdue” eMag for LumberJocks.
But here’s the deal: as I was writing the eMag I was reminded that for the past 8 months I’ve been advertising that I was going to host a picnic this summer. Oh yes, I had totally forgotten, so just imagine the look on my ghost-white face when I saw the date: July 13. Ah yah, that would be less than 2 weeks away!! That means that the gardens have to be weeded (oh dear, oh dear), the house has to be cleaned (oh lordy, lordy) and the basement woodworking shop has to be organized, safety-fied, and presentable (ooh my, oh my). I have to tell you that I think my heart stopped as it leaped into my throat!
And so I was torn between the deadline for the eMag and wasting the one gorgeous sunny day that we’ll have this week. During my lunch break I took a scan around the yard and saw several priority tasks that need to be done ASAP. One of them is my Triangle Garden, which was to be my one and only focus this year (ah, yah, that didn’t happen!)
Anyway, that darned ugly weed that I now know is “bind weed” has almost completely taken over my garden by my new Pea Tree. Although I had some groundcover that was doing nicely on top of the mound and was working its way through the garden, the ugly weed was definitely winning the battle between it and me.
Rick, who happened to be going to town was sent to find a store that was open that would have some mulch (thanks Lowes). I have no removed all of the groundcover and put it in the new shade garden at the back of the house.
Next step (after the eMag is done) I will move all the rocks that I tossed on the garden (oh lordy – tossing them in was definitely easier than the tossing them out process will be!). I will then put some of that lovely black garden cloth down (so the ugly weed will be ixnayed) and then a good covering of mulch will go on top. Maybe or maybe not the rocks will be returned to the garden.
And so – my lovely vision for my triangle garden grew, died, and will be reborn into who knows what.
