Hi everyone… thought I’d stop in to give an update.
Where to begin?
Well, my last posting, I think, was about the cats—so: Tippy is doing well. He had a hard time over the winter because he wanted to spend his time outdoors, as usual, but it was way too cold. We had lots of -30C temperatures. Now, he is happy to be out and about most of time.
The winter havoc- overall the trees etc survived the winter nicely and even the early spring! The grapes, cherries, and pears were LOADED with baby fruit. I was so excited. Then, last Saturday, we had -2C temperatures and that really messed everything up.
Most of the fruit were frozen; my heartnut trees were completely black, with frozen leaves—the damage was bad and was everywhere. Two of my grape vines look like they won’t even recover, although I’m sure they will.
Tomorrow, we are supposed to get frost again so I’m just holding my breath and crossing my fingers.
Vegetable Garden – last year was very frustrating. I planted the garden three times and got nothing out of it. Something was killing all the plants. So this year, I have kept it really simple and so far I have some peas growing and some tomato plants that I put in.
We did have a good crop of asparagus and that was lovely … oh and I ate a small handful of haskap berries!! They were really tiny and a bit tart, but it was lovely to eat the first of our fresh fruit for the year.
My goal this year for the gardens is to create an ever-blooming view, with something in bloom at all times.
So far, the daffodils and tulips have been beautiful.
that’s about it, I guess…
happy gardening everyone.
