It is with great sadness (and shock) that I pass on the news of the passing of our dear friend daltxguy.

I received the following message today, from his friend:

I wanted to let you know that Steve Racz (aka daltxguy on this forum) has unfortunately passed away. I am a friend of his in Ottawa. I was unsure if anyone had contacted you yet. He was found dead in his bed by the Quebec provincial police, after his mother had been unable to contact him for some days. They suspect he died from natural causes, possibly a heart attack. The funeral will be in Ottawa later this week – no details have been provided yet. Please let his buddies on this forum know. He was a wonderful friend, and I will really miss him. Thanks, Joanne

I told Joanne that we would leave our messages/thoughts on his profile page:

Wow. No words yet, but thank you for letting us know.

Very sad news. I would like to think that he is gardening in peace.

Steve was so young and full of life and energy, that this news does come with great sadness and quite a surprise to me. When we met him at MsDebbieP’s home a few years ago, his energy seemed contagious to those of us in his presence. So many ideas, and principled thoughts about gardening and looking after our environment, were shared by him with us.

His presence and sage advice will be sorely missed, not only by the GT members, but also by his many friends and acquaintances around the world.

I was greatly shocked by the news and still believe it is not true. When I saw him in pictures at Debbie’s house a couple of years ago I felt sorry for missing such a wonderful person because of my absence on that event and decided I will meet him certainly in the near future. But alas that is not going to happen. His postings wee very scholarly. May God rest his soul in peace. I express my deep condolences to his mother and other members of his family.

For those who want to send condolences to Steve’s family, here is his obituary in the Ottawa Citizen.
