« Part 13: Rabbit War Part II Part 14 of 2013 series Part 15: Seed Planting Part II »

Mar. 13/13

Yesterday, I sprayed some “anit-rabbit” spray onto my fruit trees to try and protect what is left of them. Today it was time to see if it was effective.

I wondered how I was going to tell if they had nibbled on the already-devastated trees. It was much easier than I thought. I just had to play Elmer Fudd. I just had to track the footprints——which went near, past, but not up to the fruit trees!! I think we have won this battle. (But not the war, I’m sure.)

Did I mention that it was snowing?

I love your picture, MsDeb! Tracking those pesky rabbits was easier than you thought it was going to be, wasn’t it? Ha-ha.

The last few days of mild temps took all our snow away….but last night a thin layer came back. (I’m going to go out and sprinkle some poppy seeds) Those bunny tracks will show up very nicely—all fresh from last night.

Rabbit tracking, gardeners like yourself sure have some interesting adventures Debbie! It looks like a late Spring where you are. It’s pretty cold here too, but no snow.

yesterday the snow was disappearing fast … today, it’s a nice, thick blanket again.

Yes, Iris, the rabbit tracking was much easier than I thought. I wasn’t sure how I was going to tell if they’d been nibbling. Turns out that I didn’t need to look for the nibbles – just the tracks. Thank goodness that it snowed :D

Your anti-rabbit spray looks to be successful. How long the effect will last any idea? Who snapped your photo? It is very nice. Here the max day temp. was 95 F and min. was 59 F.

I think it is supposed to last a couple of months.

I took the photo myself—holding the camera at arm’s length.

95F … oh how … HOT !!!!

I thought that the proper Elmer Fudd spelling was Wabbit!

We saw all kinds of tracks around here yesterday and were wondering what they were for sure. Last night we had company over for dinner and upon their leaving there were a couple of racoons sitting on our porch beside the door. If we opened it a crack they tried to get inside. Fortunately they were not successful. They were fairly young and I managed to steer them to the front lawn where they “made tracks” similar to those we had seen. Bold little critters.

they must have been lost. I hope Mamma was ok.

they are cute little gaffers, aren’t they!!—outside of the house that is haha. (well, unless you have one as a family member… not that I’m recommending taking a creature from the wild as a pet… )

After my experience with the baby racoons last year, I am very leary of them. We have had a problem with skunks in this area recently. Last summer they tunnelled under my garage floor and made the garage so smelly my eyes watered to go in it. I struggled all summer to get rid of them and hopefully, was finally successful. Now my friend, (Lurker) has them under her gardening shed. A loud radio seems to be the most successful at discouraging them.
