June 6, 2008
Well, today is the day. Over the past week, we have had mixed weather conditions and I’ve been very busy with other stuff and so my gardens have taken a backseat.
Each morning and evening, as Rick and I sit in the gazebo, I stare out at the gardens (through the screens and the mosquitoes) and watch the weeds multiply before my eyes. Each day I say, “today I’m going to get some weeding done” and then something comes up and I don’t get to the task.
Today, with a prediction of record-breaking temperatures and humidity, I will finally make it to the yard to pull some weeds. I don’t know how long I’ll survive out there, with the heat and the mosquitoes, so I guess I ‘ll have to do a priority list and tackle the areas by what needs to be done first.
1. the vegetable garden – that will probably be a days work in itself, but I’m crossing my fingers that I can get it done quite quickly.
2. the path between the house and the gazebo. Next week with my son and family coming home, we’ll be having a lot of company and I’m guessing that we’ll spend a lot of time in the gazebo so that pathway needs to look nice.
3. flowerbeds that have my grains in them. Want to make sure that I can find the flowers and the quinoa so I can show them off.
4. my blueberry bed
If I get all that done today I’ll be smiling (while I sleep).

Hope you get it all done! But if the rain did the same “number” on your weeds as it did on mine, you should have a looong day!
But then, it will be all worthwhile next week when tha family comes and admires all your great work!

Or you could get a little done in all the beds, then when family arrive apologize for not getting the gardens weeded. Be sure to mention the heat, humidity, and hoards of bitting bugs.
If you do it right, they will gladly pitch in and get everything right and tidy!

the garden wasn’t too bad. I still have to run the mini-rotiller between the rows. I didn’t have to touch the carrots :)
I pulled the ugly weed from along my path – I’m drenched with sweat! You can’t really tell that I did much. I left a little flowery groundcover along the path. It doesn’t grow to high (that I know of) and maybe it’ll help prevent that ugly weed from taking over like it has.
I think it’s called prostrate knotweed

We will be sure to ooooh and aaaaah over your weeding efforts. Rowan also loves to weed so you’ll have some child labour. :-)

We just spent the better part of two weeks geting the yard ready for my daughters graduation party last weekend. I better take some pictures. Hardly a weed in sight (except for the stupid lawn) and everything blooming. It’s been a beautiful spring.

hey Karla – I forgot about Rowan!!! She’ll help me :)
Remember the picnic when you guys were moving? She ran past my one flower and pulled it on the run? lol Too funny.
You can ooh and ahh but I know your mind will be thinking “and you weeded?? I think you missed a few!!”. I should have taken a “before” picture. Then maybe you would be able to notice the difference.
5 more sleeps!!! :D :D :D
Bob: exciting times!! Graduation. I want pictures!! You know how much I love your gardens.
