This isn’t a gardening blog really although I’m sure this could come in handy for a garden shed or maybe food storage area.

My daughter had purchased some “volcanic deodorizer” from Lee Valley and told me that it seemed to really work at removing odours from the home (specifically the musty smell of the basement).

So .. I purchased one. Our basement often has a musty smell, sometimes the kitty litter area isn’t the best place to pass by, and the bathroom often has the musty smell drifting up from the basement.

Into the bathroom it went yesterday. Now, I can’t say for sure that it is due to the volcanic deodorizer but there is this fresh … I will say “scent” but it’s not really a scent, it’s more like “pure air”. My sinuses have been acting up these days with the storm front that has moved in – perhaps I’ll work in the bathroom today and give my body a bit of fresh air.

And.. I’m buying more. I want to buy a little packet to place in the diaper container and one to put in the front-loading washer that sometimes gets a little musty smell inside if I keep the door shut. The basement should get one of the big packages and, hey, if this “pure air” really is from the volcanic deodorizer then I want one in the living room as well so I can be inhaling the purified air all day long! Oh and what about my vehicle? A small one would be good there as well.

Ok, before I make more purchases I really need to test this thing out more – try it in a variety of places.
One thing I can say, though, is from past experience with Lee Valley, they don’t sell false-promises and gimmicks. I trust their products and I tend to believe that this “pure air” is indeed from the deodorizer.

Has anyone tried these?

Debbie the product looks to be really wonderful. What a difference it makes when you breath fresh air. What is the life of the deodorizer and of course the cost? It is from a renowned company and has to be good. Can it be refilled? For your climate it is a boon.

you recharge it (?) by putting it out in the sun every six months .. and there was something about soaking it. I like products that can be rejuvenated and used over and over again.
