« Part 3: "Breaking Ground" Part 4 of My "Turtle Island" series Part 5: The Rise and Fall... »

April 16, 2008

Today I dug another path and laid out flat rocks for stepping stones.

I have now created the “triangle” around my flower bed.

I know.. I know.. you want pictures….

Heavy duty work Debbie & imagine the finished product will be well worth the labour.

no pictures yet because today I am probably going to dig a couple more paths.
The plan is to, perhaps, just toss the sod into the middle of the new area, throw some newspaper on top of it and then dump another load of dirt down to create yet another garden.
It wasn’t originally my intention to tackle two new flowerbeds this year but the area now looks a little difficult to get the lawn mower into, so “one big flowerbed” looks like the way to go.

So the back path is done and now the grass behind the area is next.

Oh and I planted some Chives and some other herb in the front areas of this flowerbed.

Love how it looks! It is going to look “smashing” and with the herbs it is going to be practical as well!

I was just wondering if you ever though of putting ground covering thyme on your pathway: I do and last year I was asked by a neighbor if we “sprayed” some perfume outside as they could not figure out why it always smelled so nicely when they drove by!!!:-)

haha yes I have Eklectic!!
I have some thyme started started and just decided yesterday that I was going to use it as my flowerbed edging and along the paths.

So now I have to go buy some more seeds for even more plants.

I also thought about planting strawberries as a border but I’d have to find a cheap source for plants. (cheap as in free)

That’s gong to be nice Deb. Drop th odd flat stone inside the triangle for weeding and pruning when the ground is wet.

Cheers

Bob

Here’s my extended plan.

no grass to cut in this area… pathways that will hopefully be placed where people tend to tread.

Now, I’m going back out to place some rocks on my first project, based on Bob’s suggestion.

Debbie, that looks fantastic! What a great feature you have represented. You are truly a computer whiz!
It looks so perfect. Go easy on the lifting of those rocks or did you complete this labour yesterday. Oh, just looks so great! Congrats

I did a lot of rock lifting yesterday.
Today, as I started to create the next path I realized that since I’m getting a load of dirt, I can just put the rocks on top of the dirt and not have to dig up all the grass.

So.. rock lifting is on hold for a few days

(and I take it easy—I know I’m not in great physical condition so I know when to take a break or when to say “that one is for Rick!) haha
or translated: sometimes I’m lazy ;D

Hope so
I was sitting outside taking a break and have decided (I think) that the front section will be mostly herbs and the back section will be for peppers and some other veggies. Throw a few flowers in here and there and voila—beauty :)
