« Part 8: SW Ontario "Field Trip" to Canadales Part 9 of GT Talk series Part 10: Garden Festival: Stratford, 2010 Part I »

Feb/10 (edited posting – original discussion talked about other options)

We’re trying to find a garden show that is convenient for a group of us to attend.

Ideas:
  • Kitchener: in the past it was more home oriented than gardens (Mar 26/28)
  • Toronto: not my favourite location and some say it is a very hectic show (mar 17/21)
  • Stratford Home & Garden Show: Jroot is not available
  • Forest: a long drive for many of us .. but possible. (I’d enjoy the drive).

Stratford, Ontario is holding a Home & Garden Show on the weekend of March 4-7.

Proposal:
Date:
Time:
Meeting Spot:

Looks like it is more Home than garden, but it is not far from me, so I would be interested if I am not working.

I’ll be back home from vacation then , so I may be called upon more so others can “take off”.

I don’t think they have the exhibitors list up yet for this year. Hopefully there will be lots of gardening stuff.

If someone knows of a better one in the region let me know. London perhaps? April 17-19

I’d prefer not to do Toronto… the Stratford one looks interesting. I’d go there.

I guess that because Toronto is closer to me than London, it always gets me going. It is HUGE. Sometimes, the show is great, other times it is disappointing, but I always learn something. My wife likes to go there also, as our son lives not too far away.

It is in the exhibition area at the Direct Energy Centre this year. It is MUCH easier to get access to, and a lot better parking as well, although outdoors.

I have been to Canada Blooms a couple times and although I loved it, I find it is way too big for me to do anymore. As soon as I walk through the door, I zone out and become overwhelmed. I have enjoyed the London Home and Garden show too. But I found it has more ‘Home Improvement” stuff than gardening. My DD (WyndyAcre) and I went to the Stratford Home and Garden Show last year. It had some really good vendors and exhibitors. I would go again. Another one I have enjoyed is the Forest Garden Show. I know Forest is pretty far for almost anyone else but me. And it is not huge. Maybe that’s one of the reasons I enjoy it. Lots of good ideas, interesting garden art and plants to buy, reasonably priced.

I would be interested in the Stratford show. I have two sisters in the area that I could visit as well. WIN WIN.

Unfortunately though, I will be out of the country for this one. :(

I couldn’t find a website for it … I think it is located northwest of London. It would be quite a drive but as long as I planned for it, then it would a wonderful trip.

I think the idea fizzled out.

I might still go to the Stratford one or maybe the Kitchener one.
If someone want to attend one of those let me know and that’s where I’ll go.

I know.. I know….. it’s like the “Canada vs Slovakia”—who to cheer for :)
If we choose Saturday (because I really, really want to hear the Native plants discussion) I will ask my group if they’d postpone for a week.

I’ve been able to postpone my Gathering until the 13th.
So—I’ll be going to the Stratford event on the Saturday.

I will be at the presentations for most of the day and I’ll be wearing my GT golf-shirt. I hope to connect with everyone there.

Guess who I saw at the Stratford Garden Festival today, wearing her Garden Tenders Shirt. She recogniized mine before I saw her. A good place to meet gardening friends.

MsDebbieP had just come from an exciting speaker. I’ll let her fill you in on the exciting details that she heard. Meanwhile here are a few photos from the show, ... for those who couldn’t make it.

hey, that’s a good picture of me! Thanks :)

wasn’t that tree ‘metal art” thingy amazing—the wall hanging? I saw someone walking away with it. I thought it was stunning ..
of course the dumpster garden was my favourite.

Great photos Jroot.

That is a very nice picture of you, MsDeb. It was good to see you and Rick. Right about where you said you’d be. I’m glad you enjoyed the Show….I thought it was a really nice one. Lots of gardening ideas.
After I left you, my friend and I walked around for a little longer, but couldn’t spot jroot. :( so it was time for us to head home.
What a beautiful day for the drive. We enjoyed ourselves….....wish more of our GT friends could have enjoyed it with us. :-)
