Although this gardening site is fun and the folks here are very gracious to each other. All the advertising on the project page is quite annoying.
Ugh!

I concur that the problem is increasing. Recently, some of the offensive advertising has remained for a long time. It used to just be the weekends, now they seem to last during the weekdays too.

Maybe they should incorporate what the lumberjocks do, the first post has to be approved by an admin. This will keep most of the spammers from posting their crap. After the first post is made then the individual can post freely, most of the spammers wont have something useful to say in their first post so they can be banned right away.

Just a suggestion.

There are potentially many (easy) ways to solve this problem and it has been going on. on this site for a long time. This is not the first time the observations have been made about the annoyance factor. One also has to wonder how many of the 11,000 + members of the site are gardeners or spammers..

However, so far, Escalate Media and/or the folks who run GardenTenders/Lumberjocks/Homerefurbers have done nothing to address the issue even though Lumberjocks has far more controls on it and all these sites share the same DNA and therefore could have the same solutions applied to them.

I agree, if this site is not held to the same standards, then it will diminish the experience and people will walk.

It almost seams to me that they need a few more moderators to help out. Running a successful online community like this takes dedicated people to help keep it on the right track. I have seen great sites turn to rubbish only because the management couldn’t keep up with it. I sure hope it doesn’t happen here, so far I really enjoy the sites, if there was a metal working part of it I wouldn’t have to go anywhere else. LOL

I totally agree with and understand the frustration.

When the site was transfered to a new server GT got a “glitch”. I can delete blogs but because of the glitch I can’t delete projects and the tech people have to go into the coding to clean it up.

The “first post approval” process is ready to go but the “glitch” has to be tracked down and resolved before it can be implemented. I can’t speak on where this sits on the priority list.

Thank you MsDebbieP.
It would be a shame to lose a great site like GT’s

This is a FREE site, fellow gardeners, and while these postings are a pain, do you give up on your carrots just because you can’t pull the weeds fast enough? Or is your garden perfect and no weeds grow there?

The spammers annoy the heck outta me too, but I don’t blame anyone but the idiots trying to sell crap here, and the mentality that we’re all suckers and will fall for their BS (obviously it works somewhere or they wouldn’t keep doing it, yes?). I know everyone needs to make a living, but this is just wrong, hijacking a free site like this for the junk they’re trying to sell, interrupting nice people who don’t want to see any of it, offensive or not.

Yeah, I wish they’d go away quicker sometimes, but talking about leaving this community and this FREE blog site because they don’t go away quick enough sounds a little too judgmental or threatening towards the wrong people to me.

Other sites I’ve seen are based out of a business that it itself is trying to sell you something, whereas this site just sells real advertising to other business and leaves us the heck alone to chat. I don’t get any residual emails or pokes or whatever because I belong here – just targeted advertising on the side of the screen that finds the key words in what we write, and posts ads about pergolas and compost bins (or whatever).

Why don’t we all vow, instead, to not click on any of those postings (the spam-crap), not look at them at all, so they never get past the one or two automatic “views” that the system seems to create. If they don’t get any hits, maybe they won’t come back so quickly or as often?

thanks, JustJoel :) Nice comparison to gardening.

The weekend spam has been cleaned up now, thanks to the discussion. Now.. to get the ‘glitch fixed’.
