While online something caught my eye, a way to grow seed potatoes. Not knowing anything about seed potatoes I had to investigate this a bit closer.
I didn’t know that the spuds purchased from the store are treated with an agent that stops or slows the sprouting of them and if they do grow they don’t produce much.
That explained why mine didn’t do well at all. Besides the fact I should have sprouted them under a light before planting and that step I missed.
In April our order of potato seeds should arrive, that’s when they ship them.
This is a pic I found online from a web site called “Grow food not lawns”
They show how to build your own grower…its very easy.
The growers I have that we use to grow lettuce will be used to grow a few seeds first this year.
This is what the inside of mine looks like, some what different from what they show but should work fine.
This is what the outside looks like, simple.
The first test will be with some blue potatoes and some red potatoes. Blue potato seeds are very costly. We love red potatoes and they are fairly inexpensive but hey I try to cut cost and have fun playing with new ideas.
The next part of this blog may be a while….for those interested I will post updates.
Happy gardening,
