I spent my first long day outside in the sun, and learned what I re-learn every year when I spend an entire day outside for the first time: sunscreen works, but only when you use it.
I have completed weeding the corn patch, and you can finally see the corn sticking out of the ground – it’s hard to find the corn among the grass before it’s been weeded. I planted pole beans around the corn, and re-learned the next lesson I learn every year – that I should label what I’m planting as I plant it, because I won’t remember ten minutes later, no matter how much I promise myself that I am memorizing as I go.
Next, I started fortifying against invading rabbits. I usually put chicken wire or welded wire around the edge of any garden bed that has beans in it, because the rabbits around here always eat a few shoots. However, due to time constraints, I had to substitute the welded wire with large quantities of dog hair this year, which my dog happily donated. He has been donating hair to the rug, behind the house, the back seat of the car…for several months now, and was happy we finally recognized his talent. He provided enough hair to make a chihuahua and ate two slugs before getting distracted by a blade of grass. We will see if I have to re-learn the third lesson of the year – that rabbits are always both smarter and dumber than you plan for them to be.

Chuckled at your narrative … I had to re-learn the sunscreen lesson myself earlier this season when I was potting all my containers. Later that night as my neck and shoulders were “screaming” I remembered like you … sunscreen is your friend, if you use it—LOL!!!
Here, if I have to pull out one more baby Maple Tree Seedling from my perennial beds, I am going to scream. They are EVERYWHERE … and I am convinced that at night they secretly multiply (kind of like junk in a basement, it always grows in the dark.) :-)

I usaully have longer hair which can be a good thing when the sun is out as the locks hide my ears but as my hair grew and after several haircuts that made me look even worse coupled with the fact thta each haircut cost 30 bucks I decided to cut my own hair military style…........
My hair covered head was now shaved bald and looked like half a very white pasty ass. Within hours my very white shaved bald head that resembled a babies butt now looked like a cherry bomb…........more burnt and resembling a nuclear christmas bulb.
I am once again a strong advocate of sun screen because my head that resembles a boiled beet in colour does the daily dose of it….........a large brimmed hat is now a must

With me it’s poplar seedlings, and every squirrel in the area seems convinced I should be growing peanuts!
We keep both a corn wheel and a peanut feeder for them, and I’m always unearthing peanuts.

Looks like we are alll having weed and tree problems this year. For me it’s weeds and grass in the gardens.Every other day it seems they are back.I think they must have used weed contaminated soil last year.I have removed 6 chestnut trees from my gardens thanks to one little black squirrel . (lol) But on the bright side I passed them along and now there is 6 more chestnut trees growing in peoples yards.

if you have the room plant a small plot for your neighbours. They just need a place a the table , they mean you no harm.
Lettuce seed is very inexpensive and you will be rewarded in rabbit heaven.
Don’t count me as a tree hugger, if you end up with too many eat em.
