Married, 1 daughter, that's the wife and I with our daughter Katie and the dog, Maggie

Retired from state gov't but still working 3 to 4 days a week. In the spring/summer I help a friend out at his garden center in Bethany Beach.

Enjoy working outside, doing yard work, gardening, have enough gardening books to start a library.

I've also wanted to get into woodworking and that's how I found this site.

It’s funny…I participate on four different web forums, and this is the one I check first! I can’t wait until Spring!

I have to say that I think this site is going to make gardening so much more fun.. even if I’m out there on my own. I can come back in and brag/complain/philosophize :)

I find that prayers to St. Fiacre always help out when gardening. Although he didn’t help with the roses.

I’ll find or take some pics of the winter hardy gardenias, encore azaleas (GREAT PLANTS) and other flowering shrubs.

I also planted in another part of the yard a dogwood (Empress of China) that blooms later in the year and keeps it’s leaves all winter. It’s a varigated variety and though it is small right now, it’s still a beautiful tree.

Along the fence line to provide some privacy we’ve planted about 12 5 foot tall camellia’s yuletide red. They are still in bloom and should hold the flowers until at least the end of this month. ( or I should say my wife planted, I was recovering from hand surgery and the best I could do was tell her how to and where to plant…not a good thing to do when she has a shovel in her hand and it’s 100 degreees outside).

Another great web site is www.gardeningwisdom.com. A guy named Dave Epstein runs that site and posts 3 or 4 webcasts a week that can be dowloaded into ipods, etc.

I’ll take some more pictures as soon as I can find the camera…it’s in the house somewhere…but right now the garden looks sorta raggedy..but you can see the camellias in bloom and I’ll get a pic of the fountain, hopefully when the racoon named Titanic is not around.

OH yes, pictures please … Would like to see what a “camellia yuletide red” is? LOL at trying to give your wife planting instructions … my husband and I are a bit reversed – me giving planting instructions; him not being a gardener. There have been similar “moments” to yours! Hee Although after 33 years he knows my “MO”—poor thing— :-)

Hope your hand is healing nicely.

oh yes… I hope the hand is better.

I am really bad with names… I don’t know if I’ll get any better with the plant names. I’ve got the following down pat: tree, flower, vegetable, .. I was going to say “weed” but I get them mixed up with flowers sometimes so I can’t add it to the list.

One thing we did to help us remember is make little cheapie signs out of popsicle sticks. We’d take a little time to glue them together and carefully write the common and latin names on them. Here’s an example:
