Part 1: The Beginning ... Finding just the right containers ...
I began pondering last fall about what I could do with a patch of earth that lined the whole side of the house and a portion of the driveway. This strip gets lot of sun and heat, all day. What came to mind was a Container Garden. Now I am not talking about just filling a few pots with flowers and calling “it a day”. What I have in mind are items that I can repurpose; or unusual garden pieces; or items that are just pretty to place among the flowers and various containers. So to...
Part 2: A Few More Finds ...
Hooray, it’s Sunday morning and I’m off to the Flea Market!! Can’t wait to see if any new vendors are there. Hoping I have better luck than last week … Park the truck and in I go … Wow, looks like I might have better luck. The second vendor I walk by has several huge, old stock pots, in many different colors. Those would be really pretty planted and for $5.00, I’m sold. Now, I had been lamenting at hubby about my failure to find that child’s old...
Part 3: First Flowers
For the last two weeks I have been busy, most evenings, cutting out flower patterns and making a good mess of our living room floor!! -vbg- Mike, who is a GT Tenders, had brought to my attention these marvelous and quite beautiful Canal Art pieces. Realizing my artistic limitations; it did get the old brain thinking how I might minic those pieces. So, I headed to a fabric store and purchased a yard of floral material with a black background. And now here we are, back to the beginning, with m...
Part 4: A little preview of things to come ...
Just could not resist heading outside with all this warm bright sunshine. Question is what was I going to “get into” this morning. Okay, who am I kidding here!!! I knew exactly what I was going to do and where I was headed; to the side of the house to begin work on my Container Garden. Once I reached the side of the house I realized first order of the project was do a bit of weeding. Man, I hate those pesky, idy-bidy green leafed weeds that spread everywhere. They were just beg...
Part 5: Last two items ...
Have found the last two items for my Container Garden. Both of course will need to be “attended to”. The rusty milk jug needs to be refinished. I bought a Black Mat Finish to spray on it and depending on how ambitious I feel I might decopague a few flowers in some sort of border. The chair needs a hole cut into the seat (thanks Hubby!!!) so that I can drop a pot filled with flowers in it. I am going to leave it white … I have been so anxious to begin this Container Garden...
Part 6: Need opinions ...
Okay, my daughter thinks I should NOT paint the milk jug and leave it “rusty” ... she says it has more character this way. Me, I had not even thought of that; just assumed that I should paint it. Now I am torn as to which way to go in the Container Garden … what do you guys think??? Below, a photo to remind you of what the milk jug looks like “rusty”
Part 7: It's Done!!!
Today has been a quite busy day. Hubby and I headed up to our Farmer’s Market early this morning. Grabbed a cup of yummie coffee and strolled around the Market checking out all the flowers. I bought Wave Petunias in two colors, Periwinkles, Gerbera Daisies, and a white flowered ground cover that I cannot remember the name of. Oh yah, and a basket of Million Bells Petunias for my old White Spindle Back Chair. After we got home and we (okay, hubby) unloaded the truck with all “my...
