« Part 18: One Last Gift ... Part 19 of Grandma's Gardens series Part 20: Small Cement Basket »

This past Saturday I headed to our local Farmer’s Market and found a great sale on Mum’s. So picked up 4 for the front porch. So many colors to choose from, I had a difficult time; but finally chose the yellow/white and mauve colors. Thought they would show up best from a distance.

I may add a few pumpkins in the coming weeks; but have to say this is about it for me this year. It has been a truly enjoyable year gardening; one I won’t soon forget. So now on to beautiful Fall colors, raking up leaves and putting our gardens to rest for the winter. I have to admit, I am ready …

This is my version of a Scarecrow … this cute straw lady hangs from our front door and welcomes everyone as they enter.

View coming up the steps … the wooden pot is the FIRST item I attempted to stencile many, many, many years ago now. Surprised the pot has survived all these years. Sadly, could be the last summer for it.

My favorite basket by the front door …

Originally this box was made for our strawberries … but I decided it would be cute on the front porch. Kinda matches the bench, in color anyway …

And granted, the Orange Gerber Daisies are not a “fall plant” but the color fits in so nicely and they bloom till first frost.

Well thank you MsDeb … I appreciate your very kind words. Have to chuckle now cuz a lot of my “stuff” is getting so old and beginning to fall apart despite my best efforts. I know sooner or later I am gonna have to begin really replacing it and I am not sure I want to. Hard finding items that are unique and you just fall in love with.

My big find this year was that basket in the third pic … just had to have it when I first saw it at the Farmer’s Market; and I loved that it was made with bark from Michigan bushes. (I have one HUGE wreath and two smaller ones inside the house that the gentleman made as well from the same type of bushes. They are awesome!!)

That basket is awesome. You can do so much with it for all seasons.

Thank you Bon and XO … never had a front porch this big, so it’s been fun decorating it.

And yah, XO I didn’t figure you would like my straw lady, as you and I have very different taste. :-) But that’s okay cuz how boring would life be if we all liked the same things. Beauty comes in so many different forms!

I rather like the straw lady.. Not much of a scare crow however. She’s rather cute. Looks easy to do, as well.. Well, besides the clothing.. The body is easy however.. :)

XO, Honesty is a good thing … and I never take offense to that … besides life is too short to be offended cuz someone doesn’t like “your stuff” ... as long as I like it, that is all that really matters. And I do like my straw lady – hahahaha!!!

Thanks Scott … you are right, not much of a scarecrow, but in the middle of city, how much of one do I really need?! :-) Just adding a little “straw” to my Fall stuff … :-) She is years old now … almost 15, now that I think of it. My SIL’s friend was making them. So ordered one in blue and one in burgundy. They get moved around the house alot, depending on my mood.

Your front porch is, as always, very inviting. Just begs one to sit and have a cuppa!

Might I continue. I havent done my front porch yet as the giant pumkins arent quite ready yet, nor are the gourds but they should really compliment the front door which my FIL decided to surprise us by painting it Barney PURPLE.

I understand that he didnt paint his front door purple. It’s not that I dislike purple, as some think its the colour of healing, it’s my significant others favorite colour, it matches the manu purple flowers I planted.

The problem I have with a purple front door is exactly that….....its purple. When I walked down the streets of rainbow country in Vancouver there were a lot of purple doors, purple garage doors. Some of the male designers I occasionally work with also have purple doors. I am not of the same persuasion.

I guess its his way of saying that he’s sorry…..................? Now everyday I get to walk past the ponds that look like the Uniroyal tire, the crooked trees, and so on and so forth only to arrive at my purple front door.

Sweet Lord Thundering…............I recite the Serenity Prayer

Hey Greenthumb, it coulda been plaid ;)-
There’s a house in the south end of town with foundation blocks painted like a patchwork ( about 11 different colors ) and green and red plaid doors. I will say this: it does get your attention.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!! Oh you poor thing … purple door eh??!!!! “Barney” Purple too … my granddaughter would love it!!! hahaha!!! It is “the” color this year, ya know. Well at least he stopped with the door …

I should tell ya that the first rental house we lived in as a married couple … purple door and purple house trim, purple living room with purple shag carpet … oh and the orange bathroom with a map of Africa on it. (Owners, her fav color was purple, husband’s was orange – need I say more!!) Needless to say, we did a LOT of painting our first months there, and ripped out that “gorgeous” purple carpet … purple, OHGosh what memories …. hahahahahahaha!!!!!!

Oh and Greenthumb, thank you for the nice remarks about our porch …

my daughter used to be a figure skater and there is a coach that we nicknamed Mrs. Purple… she loved purple. Her hair was purple (think mauve.. she was/is an older lady).. her skates were purple and her house was easy to find on the street she lived on .. yes, purple.
I was never inside but I can imagine.
Fortunately it was a soft colour so it wasn’t overpowering

I think you either truly LOVE the color or pretty much hate it … me, a nice “Amethyst” colored sweater is pretty. Bought as far as I go with “purple” ...

But hey, differences is what makes the world an interesting place …
