This year my Zebrina Mallows had a really rough start. With the cold spring and surprise dipping of the temperatures in early summer … they just did not take kindly to this. BUT, finally they began to take off.
I have been waiting for them to reach the top step of our front porch … and today I noticed that, by golly they had passed it up. Wonder just how tall they will get this summer! Normally my Mallows will grow until the first frost. They are always the last plant that I cut back for winter.
Below is a shot of the major grouping of Mallows. LOL!!! You can see one more to the bottom right that is trying to keep up -
Here are close-ups of the top of the tallest Mallow. Flowers are really pretty.

Hollyhock Mallow Zebrina (Malva sylvestris Zebrina)
Hardy in zones 5-9
Height: 3 feet

Outstanding, G’ma! I actually have a little bit of that mallow still clinging to life, and throwing out blooms from time to time. That’s one dedicated little plant!

I love this mallow GramT.I planted it for the first time this year and I love the colour of it.I made the mistake of planting it in the berm though and it doesn’t stand out like it should.I’m gonna give it a new home next year.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! :-)
They are a tough plant for sure; glad to hear you got one still growing “D”!!! If you want more, I can get ya some. I moved just one Mallow over to the other side of the porch last week. It looked really sick after the move, but has perked right up and is blooming. Hoping for some Mallows over there next year …
Sorry to hear your Mallow isn’t growing “E” ... ;-(
Bon … I still bet they are pretty on that Berm of yours!!! Where ya thinking about moving them to next year?
XO … Bet they will get nice and big for you … mine will grow till first frost, and sometimes after depending on where I have them.

GramT. I think I would like some on the east side gadens close to the house. And also around the new tree.I already have some malva rosea growing around the tree but I like the zebrina better.Might look nice together.

Hmmmm, yes, I agree they would look good together. I am gonna have to look for some Malva Rosea. Wouldn’t mind adding that to “my collection” next spring. Sure is pretty …
