« Part 12: Pardancanda 'Sangria' or Candylily Part 13 of Grandma's Gardens series Part 14: An August Daylily Surprise ... ohhh, another ... »

Okay, I am sooooooo EXCITED right now!!!! We spent the afternoon at my sister-in-law’s home. She is an avid gardener as well, so was really looking forward to walking through her beautiful gardens. As we are chatting and walking I noticed these tall yellow flowers in the distance … I thought, NO, they couldn’t be those Golden Glow’s that MsDeb has in her yard; and that I desperately want seeds of!! How crazy would that be!!

So as we get closer … well sure enough, there they were. Taunting me … calling my name …
My sister-in-law is chatting away when I THOUGHT I hear her say, “So Debbie, do you want some of these? I need to thin them out.” Ohhhhhhh, music to my ears!!!! “Of course, I would love to have a bunch of these” ... and then I tell her the story of MsDeb’s flowers.

The afternoon has passed and it’s time for hubby and I to say our goodbye’s … he walks to the truck and my sister-in-law and I come around the corner lugging a box full of my new flowers. Hubby just shakes his head and laughs. “And where are you putting these” he asks. “I don’t know yet, but I’ll sure find a place!” “Yes sweetie, I am sure you will!!” he says.

All the way home we chat about where that best place just might be. We both agreed that the Zinnia bed by the back yard patio would be that place. Lots of sun and because they get so tall it would help hide that fence and view.

So here they are all … planted in their new home. They look quite lovely in the corner by the new patio door hubby made this summer. The yellow really sets off the door. I was even able to split a small plant off the larger one. Ahhh, ain’t life grand!!! :-)

These look a bit like what we call false sunflowers. I grew ‘em for a couple seasons, but they didn’t seem to like 100% sun. Hope yours go better than ours, G’ma…they look great!

Thanks Dini and “D”!!!

What a cool and interesting name … “False Sunflowers”. Well we will see, my SIL has her’s in full sun … where I put them they will get morning and most of the early afternoon. I am assuming that should be enough sunlight to keep them happy.

Gonna try to save seeds this fall … We should start a blog once “seed season” begins and list who has what. Then we can trade … be fun!!! :-)

Those are beautiful, Grandma T. Love the idea of swapping seeds. Gardening is always a work in progress… that’s the fun of it.

Beautiful flowers…I don’t think they are the same as MsD’s ones but sure will add that bright yellow to the garden. I’m pretty sure what you have is Heliopsis helianthoides and MsD’s could be Rudbeckia laciniata Hortensia.

I was told the ones Dh just rescued for me are Jerusalem Artichoke, but darned if I know. I didn’t pull the dirt apart to check for tubers, just planted ‘em in the dirt they came home in, lol.
