Love the lily, eh.. It’s got really nice green to it, which is important in my book anymore.

I’ve been dead-heading and cutting off the stems as the flowers finish blooming. My Little Business and Pink are almost done … only a couple more days. Although I did discover today that one of the new, bareroot dwarf’s that I ordered from SpringHill has buds on it. I am most anxious to see which flower it is. I’ll post a pic once it blooms.

Dead heading keeps them going a bit longer. Good for you. A very nice daylily. It is too bad they don’t go on all summer though. Wouldn’t that be glorious?

Yes, it would be glorious if they bloomed all summer. Although you can find Lilies that bloom a little later than others. Like this red. It began blooming after my “others” were pretty much done. My much missed and very loved Grandfather, taught me years ago that if you dead-head most flowers, their energy is put into forming new flowers, not maintaining dying ones.

Actually in terms of daylilies, unless the lily is a rebloomer, which most are not, deadheading does nothing more than make sure the plant is pretty.
In fact, if you’re after those chance seeds that happen from time to time, you’d want to leave the blooms on.
Granted the likely hood of anything nice coming from a chance breeding is slim, but, eh; it’s still fun.
Only problem playing around with those seeds are, you need at least 2-3 years growth to see what the blooms look like.

Beautiful Grandma T, as are all the lovely plants you have done this year.
I love the avatar…......can I ask what your plants are sitting in on the chair???? I have a chair already and waiting to have a go, now that I have more time.

They are called “Million Bell” Petunias. This plant has performed spectacularly for me this summer. It is now half way up the back of the chair and growing just as large through the back spindles. Been feeding “her” Miracle Grow for about a month now cuz I know she is pretty root bound in that pot. And I do, once a week, sit and pick all of her dead flowers off. She seems to love that and rewards me with oodles of more flowers.

Is the plant in a plant pot or in a bowl or something??

It is in the plastic pot that I bought it in … hubby cut a hole in the middle of the seat of the chair large enough for the pot to sit down in without falling through. Most of our hanging baskets come in a standard size plastic pot; so that is what I gaged the hole in the seat to accommodate. Hope that helps you.

I was reading in the Toronto Star newspaper, that some people are afraid to use red in a garden. I can’t imagine why. I love it, and I love your lily.

Thank you jroot … did it say why they are afraid of red?? That is so strange. Me, I love red in the garden; but then I love oranges and yellows too.
