« Part 6: First Attempt at Dahlias ... Part 7 of Grandma's Gardens series Part 8: Pretty in Red ... »

I have been waiting since Winter to see these flowers bloom … when I first placed an order for 6 of these plants. To be honest I had never heard of DWARF Hollyhocks. Well my wait is over. This morning as I went about my morning routine of watering containers and dead-heading plants I noticed these little guys had opened up their first flowers. Soooooo, I had to share my excitement with you all …

Here is a good view of the plant and first blooms. So many more blooms to open!!!

Here is a little close-up of the first flowers

And last, you can see how small this plant really is when compared to the Hostas in the background. There is a second one planted to the right of it, in the picture.

Thanks everyone … gonna be fun to watch them grow …

“E” ... they get 30-32” inches high according to the catalog. But in respect to a normal Hollyhook, that is pretty small. Mine are so little yet, be interesting to see if they get that tall.

I have never seen or heard of these before. They are truly neat. :) Are they delicate? What zone are they good for?

jroot ... I had never heard of them either, why I HAD to get them. When first planted they were a bit delicate, but now that they are blooming the stems have really shot up and seem quite sturdy. They are perennials in zones 3-9. I am most anxious to see just how big they will get and how well they will reseed for next year.

How tall are they supposed do to get? They look fairly tiny compared to the hosta.

Yes, they were when I took that photo. According to the catalog they will get 30-32 inches high. They have grown quite a bit … here is a current photo, taken today. And although they look quite delicate, they are not. The stems are very study for such a thin plant.
