« Part 2: My How We Have Grown ... Part 3 of Grandma's Gardens series Part 4: New Perennial Blooms as of July 9, 2008 »

Seems like a long time coming … but my front bed is finally beginning to bloom. So walked around with my camera in hand. There is so much that is idy-bidy yet within this bed that I added this spring; and I am most anxious to see them grow, fill in and bloom. As they do, I’ll get the ol’ camera. Thanks for sharing this with me.

Here an an overview of our cozy little home and my front garden. Not too bad for the second summer here and starting from literally scratch.

Below is a closeup of the driveway bed of Stella d’ Oro Daylilies. They are just beginning to bloom.

Below is a photo of one of my ground cover roses. Color is Raspberry.

And here my first Hosta to bloom. It seems early, but guess not as I have a few other varieties with buds as well.

July 2, 2008 – A few more flowers have begun to bloom …

My Yellow Gerber Daisies are just beautiful this year … really coming into their own now.

Planted 3 “Fanfare” Dwarf Gaillardias this year. All 3 look quite healthy, but only one has bloomed thus far.

Below two Gazania’s … first year for planting these annuals. But they have become a fav of mine.

Thar be some thick Stella clumps. How old? Granted, Stellas do grow like weeds.. I have some Daylilies that multiply their fans, oh, once every 3 years?... Yeah.. slow growers… Good thing they’re pretty.

Actually these Stellas were small pieces that I divided and brought over from our old home. The Stella I divided from at our former home were old. I had bought the original Stellas before they became popular or easy to find. So I am talking YEARS …

I was very pleasantly surprised at how much these guys have grown in one year … more than doubled themselves this spring. But then my Hostas really took off this year too. And they were also small divided pieces from all the “ol’ gals” at our former home. We have good soil here and I am thinking with the cool, wet spring we had the plants are just thriving.

Show stopper Grand T …..... love those colours and your raspberry rose. I’m anxious to view your balloon flower when it opens. What a major undertaking and all is so well co-ordinated and so pleasing to the eye.

Here are a few more flowers that have opened up within my front flower bed. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Still waiting on my balloon flowers, daylilies, dwarf Hollyhocks, Daisies and Rudbeckias “Prairie Sun” to open. Everything has buds … come on “girls”, show me your pretty colors!!! :-)

(For the next flowers I post from the front yard, I’ll start a new thread, as I think this one is long enough, especially for those without DSL.)

I just love your choice of plants GramT.They are beautiful.Next year I want to try some of those gazanias and gaillardia.Love the colours. If I was driving by your place I would have to stop and admire all your hard work. When I was in Oshawa last week taking mom for a drive we passed a house with the most beautiful gardens and the lady was out tending to the plants.I stopped and told her how great her flowers looked.I think I made her day. It put a big smile on her face and moms. Therefore it put one on mine too.

Thanks E and Bon … I appreciate your comments!

Bon, what a nice story. I am positive that you made that lady’s day. I like you will comment on people’s yards/flowers cuz I know how it makes them feel … just wonderful!!! I have had several young mom’s and couples stop me while I have been outside. Asking me what this flower is or that one. They have all commented on my yard … and it always makes my day!!! I usually walk around with a smile on my face for the rest of the day!! I feel a large part of gardening is sharing your flowers/gardens with others … whether they just stroll by and look, ask a simple question or by giving bits and pieces of your “babies” to others. :-)

Thanks Bob … seeing the pic of the house I posted last summer with our first plantings and then this picture really blew me away with the change. When you are digging and planting you don’t really pay that much attention to the actual changing. It has been a labor of love and I enjoy and savour every moment I am in my little piece of heaven. :-)
