My Container Gardens #7: It's Done!!!

« Part 6: Need opinions ... Part 7 of My Container Gardens series no next part

Today has been a quite busy day. Hubby and I headed up to our Farmer’s Market early this morning. Grabbed a cup of yummie coffee and strolled around the Market checking out all the flowers. I bought Wave Petunias in two colors, Periwinkles, Gerbera Daisies, and a white flowered ground cover that I cannot remember the name of. Oh yah, and a basket of Million Bells Petunias for my old White Spindle Back Chair.

After we got home and we (okay, hubby) unloaded the truck with all “my” goodies, I spent the afternoon playing with arranging the various containers and baskets. Once I finally settled on how I wanted everything, I began planting.

Now a few of you may be asking where is the Old Blue Stock Pot that I decopagued. Well it is still downstairs SOAKING up the final coats of Poly. Those cloth flowers are thirsty little “devils”!!! Geez!!! Anyway, it should be dry tomorrow and ready for planting. I have decided that I am going to put it on the front porch for a little more protection. Too much work in that pot to risk ruining it with rain. I promise to get pictures as soon as I get it planted.

I am very pleased with how this garden turned out. It has been a fun journey and I must admit I am a little sorry that it has ended.

Below is the old Spindle Back Chair that we cut a whole in the seat for a basket – On the back patio -

Below I tried to get a shot of the whole bed. Actually there is a clearer, larger photo on My Garden Page of this shot. You can see the whole garden and containers. Just in case you want to check it out.

Below is a close up of the Milk Jug. I left it “rusty” and planted a few Gerbera Daisies in front of it to highlight.

How nice! Those beds seem to be getting lots of sun. I wish mine got more. Are you past the last frost date where you are? I am pleased that one of my front beds is doing really well although I see that the forget me nots are not so thick this year but the delphiniums are looking great. I’ve planted some more beside the ones from last year and I did a search on dividing delph’s and it says every 3 years so next spring I’ll do that.

I wanted to go out today too to get some wave petunias for my whiskey barrel but I haven’t seen them out…guess its too cold. I should think in another week though.

WELL GRANDMA T IT IS LOOKING GOOD, IF I HAD THAT RUSTY MILK CHURN I WOULD TAKE OFF THE LID AND FIND A BIG POT THAT WILL SIT IN THE NECK AND PLANT A TRAILING SKY BLUE SOFINIA PETUNA IN IT WHICH WHEN IT TRAILS DOWN WILL LOOK STUNNING AGAINST THE RED/BROWN OF THE CHURN.
LIGHT BLUE OR TURQUOISE IS THE IDEAL COMPLIMENTARY COLOUR FOR BROWN . AND USE THE LID AS A POT STAND TO RAISE UP A POT .
I LIKE OTHERS HAVE WATCHED THIS PROJECT OF YOURS FROM THE START AND YOU ARE TO BE CONGRATULATED ON SEEING THIS THROUGH WITH SUCH A GREAT RESULT.
REGARDS MIKE

Thank you for all your lovely comments!!! Have to admit I am very tired and everything hurts at the moment. But it is what I call “good pain”. Pain that resulted from me “playing in my dirt” LOL!!!! It has been a fun journey from the initial idea, shopping, decopauging, weeding, tearing out that awful black rubber edging to final placement and planting of all my wonderful finds. Now I get to enjoy watching the baskets and containers get nice and full of blooms!!! :-)

Oh Dahlista ... I think our final frost date is May 24th or something like that. Me, I have always begun my planting on Mother’s Day Weekend. Never had any trouble … okay … where is that wood to knock on … LOL!!! And yes, that bed gets lots of sun and heat … all day long.

I almost was begging a neighbour yesterday to til the garden

But he would not, He says it is too wet but it’s dry as a bone

I am anxious to get it planted

OH my patience….

love that milk can. It’s in the perfect spot!

You will have to start doing the neighbour’s yards to keep your creativity going.

It looks so inviting!
And that chair: you sure picked the right flowers. When they cascade over the chair it is going to be truly amazing!!:-)

But my favorite is still that little “stick” one!
Great Job!

Thanks MsD, “E”, and Bon for your wonderful words. I am really pleased with how everything turned out. It really adds interest to the side of the house. And I think once those pots fill out the color will be awesome. Even got a few comments from the neighbors!!! And yah, I like that Spindle Back Chair too. Took hubby “2 seconds” to measure and cut a circle in the seat.

Oh, I found another cool item that I will post a picture of when I pick it up next Saturday. It is a large twine/limb basket for our back patio. Substantial enough to make a statement all on it’s own. Can’t wait for you all to see it!!! I get in so much “trouble” when I go to that Market … hahahaha!!!

Me saying “I am done” is a big joke with hubby and I during gardening season. Cuz without realizing it, I always say, “oh just this one more flower” or “oh just this one more pot and then I am done”. And of course, I am never quite done … so hubby just laughs at me and says “really, you are done???!!!!” Guess after 33 years, he knows I will never truly be “done”—ever—with my flowers. Poor man with his ever shrinking wallet. Good thing he loves me. hahahahaha!!!!!

G’maT, great job!! Nothing beats that feeling of satisfaction of getting a bed the way you like it, achieving your goals for the planting part of the season!

You are not done, however! I’ve got a load of stellas for you (check your PMs)! But then…who is ever truly done with a garden?

Again…excellent work! I can’t wait to see it!

Thanks “D”!!!! I appreciate your wonderful comments. Be good to see you again, talk some gardening, and walk around the yard. Gathering some of my Mallow’s for you and we’ll see what else you might want pieces of.
