Orchid Rescue

Last year we bought my daughter an Orchid because she really loved the blooms. Her thumb isn’t quite green and it rapidly deteriorated due to neglect. The funny thing was that the large leaves on the plant never dried out. I didn’t know anything about growing orchids, but it seemed a shame to toss it. After doing some research on the internet I learned that orchids really don’t need a bunch of water and that they have these neat things called air roots that can capture humidity from the air. Living in Ohio, we have plenty of that to go around!
So, I started caring for the plant and after a few months, noticed some different plant structures and found out that it was putting out new air roots and what looked like it might be a flower stalk.
My diligence paid off just a week or so ago as the last of these lovely flowers opened up!

“it’s alive” (in my Frankenstein voice) .. and it’s beautiful.
How wonderful that you were able to rejuvenate this beauty. Well done!
