Butterfly Bonanza

Blog entry by DougPhoto posted 111 days ago 120 reads 0 times favorited 10 comments Add to Favorites

The last two days of July brought out an increase in butterfly activity in our gardens. Sitting on the front porch these lepidopterans provided hours of entertainment as they winged from one butterfly bush to another.

Oh man! Beautiful shots!
What are the species? The only one I see around here is the monarch!

Great shots, Doug. Nice to capture them.

There was a beautiful monarch flying around here this morning, but didn’t stop long enough for a good shot.

You should see it when the big moths come in to pollinate the brugs. I”m not sure of the exact type, but they resemble sphinx moths with about a 3 to 4 inch wing spread. If there are a lot of brugs out in bloom they come in swarms. The first time she saw them, my wife thought they were bats and was freaking out. That was a good laugh. I grabbed my camera, but everything was blurry. I guess I was too excited. LOL.
