2008 Growing Season #5: I want candy(lily)!

I finally found my camera and am able to post a few pics of my candylilies. These are yet another gift from my Mom’s gardens, and she calls ‘em raspberry lilies. This first pic shows the outstanding iris-blade style foliage.

The second pic shows the bloom clusters a bit closer. Also note the nice reddish phlox and what’s left of the red-hot poker spikes (some seed clusters of questionable viability for any gamblers out there):

Candy Lily

The next several pics are closeups of the bloom clusters, which show the lifecycle of the blooms. Because they’re daylilies, each individual bloom goes quickly, and then twists up when finished. The seed pods appear just beneath the twisted remains of the blooms. Each pod can produce up to about 10 or so seeds…

These are marvelous pics!!!! Such a better showcase than the one flower that I posted. Your’s are just magnificent “D”!!!! I love the corkscrews … hmm, didn’t notice that on mine. Have to take another look. :-)

Man, these are such cool flowers!!!

Your Candylily form a terrific display of color. The long, strap-like leaves do look like iris. Thanks for sharing.

Great looking lilies Bro. Does the plant get much bigger or maybe thicker? And I have nothing to trade for seeds well maybe a bottle of some good scotch for a trade. Let me know Bro. if you are interested in that type of trade.

Thanks for the kind words, everybody. I’ll be collecting seeds for trading, etc., this fall.

@bncprez: Bro, I wouldn’t think of trading seeds for scotch (I’d be getting the better deal!). I will be happy to send you some seeds…I owe you anyway!

@Bon: You’re on the list too!
