Although on a very small plot of land (only 1/8 acre!), we've crammed as many different species into what we've got. We have four main beds: bulb, winged-critter bringer, culinary herbs/grasses/exotics, and a spillover bed.

We've also planted four trees in our yard: a redbud, sargent crab, semi-dwarf red delicious, and a maple (memorial). In addition, we've got several flowering shrubs growing, including an heirloom burning bush, potentilla, and a lilac that grew from a tiny stick 4 seasons ago to bloom the first time this year.

I'm looking forward to sharing gardening experiences and tips for a chemical-free garden!

Well this is very cool to have a member so close!!!!!!!! Your flower beds and yard sound lovely and each bed quite different. (Look forward to pictures!!!!) Me, I am down to two beds now; a very small one in the back yard and the larger one in front of the house. And to be honest this is suiting me just fine now (did I want to admit that out loud – hee). Learning to garden in full sun now. Been a bit of challenge coming from a yard that was mostly shade.

Look forward to sharing …

P.S. Your dog is cute!!! :-)

Guess we will indeed be chatting!

I love your gardens. I hope that mine in time look as awesome. And finally figured out how to add you as a Buddy. Thanks again for the invite it makes it alot more fun talk and seeing what other people are doing.

I was going to pull the lavender my wife was totally against it and when you said not to, she was like see now you can not. So I am adjusting my plan.

Thanks again

I’m in agreement.. don’t touch the lavender.

Reminds me of my precious periwinkle that I had been growing for years. My goal was to fill my front flowerbed with periwinkle to prevent the weeds from filling it. The plan was going well. It had filled the east side of the of the bed and worked its way around the corner and had started to go along the front of the house. It was SO beautiful. And then my Mom moved in…. she hates anything that just “goes everywhere”. I came home from work one day to see this giant pile of plants that had been pulled out… I can still cry about it to this day.

Damocles … I posted a picture and description of a plant I really want to purchase this summer on the blog “What are you planting for 2008” – or something to that effect. Wondering if you might take a look at it and tell me if you (or your mom) has grown anything like this. I have decided that I am going to purchase 2/3 of them for my front bed. What say you “Oh Master of the Flowers who lives in my zone”??? Thanks!!!

LOL! Of course it counts! And think of it this way…how many people who belong to both boards get to meet a member from each at the same time?

Thanks! Nice patch you’ve got going yourself, and your gardening buddy looks pretty friendly too.

So I lived in Sterling Hts for 15 years—that makes us “almost” neighbors. I could grow lavender there, but haven’t been able to coax it up here yet. Still trying.

Thanks, Robin…yep, he’s very sweet, although a bit shy. He’s a rescue dog, and actually survived parvo from the pound, so he’s a bit of a miracle. For that reason alone, we’re willing to let the skittishness slide.
