I am what is called a 'people person', so it would really be my pleasure to have a visit with you, even invite you for a cup a . Gardening is one of my fun things along with quilting. Before moving to the town of Cambridge I had very little space for either so now I can indulge in these favourite pastimes. Quilting in the winter and gardening in the spring by indoor sowing and of course the summer in the several garden beds. I have one large bed at the back of my backyard, a center one, two more on either side of our back deck and still another underneath a window of the lower floor. then there are two long ones on both sides of the house running the full length of the house. Two more at the front of the house next to the house and the final one at the front and to the side of the house. I think that is 10. What was I thinking of. I'm nearly 68 yrs. old. Yicks LOL

I didn’t.I used a store bought pk. this time. It says to sow indoors, Firm down on a moist growing medium and enclose in a plastic bag. Germination 5-90 days. Gee I hope its on the shorter side.

Well as I look out in my backyard with all that snow, I really have to use my imagination and trust that Spring really is around the corner. Meanwhile I put it out of my mind and baby sit my babies. LOL

SPRING HAS ARRIVED HERE IN ENGLAND I HAVE LOTS OF SEEDLINGS WITH THEIR FIRST SET OF LEAVES AS SOON AS THE TRUE LEAVES ARE FORMED I WILL BE POTTING THEM ON . HAVING MOVED AWAY FROM OUTER LONDON I NOW LIVE IN RURAL OXFORDSHIRE FOR THE FIRST TIME I HAVE A VEGETABLE GARDEN WHICH MAKES ME VERY HAPPY. LAST YEAR THE SLUGS AND BUTTERFLIES /CATERPILLERS EAT MORE OF MY CABBAGE AND LETTUCE THAN I DID SO I AM GOING TO BE READY FOR THEM THIS YEAR.
TODAY I HAVE STARTED MAKING CLOCHES WITH NETTING WHICH I CAN DRAPE POLYTHENE OVER TO WARM THE SOIL, THIS I HAVE DONE USING PLASTIC WATER PIPE PUSHED ON TO DOWEL RODS PROTRUDING FROM A WOODEN FRAME. I SEE YOU GROW HOSTAS WHICH IS LIKE CAVIAR TO SLUGS HOW DO YOU COPE WITH THIS PROBLEM ?
I WOULD PUT DOWN BEER TRAPS FOR THE SLUGS BUT I WOULD RATHER THEY HAD THE LETTUCE AND I HAD THE BEER ! I`M A LOT YOUNGER THAN YOU IM ONLY 67 THIS YEAR REGARDS MIKE

i was reading something yesterday that said petunias keep some type of beetle away and borage (what is that?) keeps some moth caterpillars away.

Mike, I tried using crushed egg shells around my hostas and just picking them up each day before they got to my hostas. I seemed to have won…we’ll try for another year LOL.

The best slug deterrent is to get a friendly toad who love eating them , I believe that a bowl of water and some stones for the toad to hide under are needed . Now where can i find my toad? There is a lady two doors away from me who has a pet toad and she talks to it every day and shares all her problems with him, her house is a converted pair of medieval cottages and the toad lives in the disused bread oven. I will ask her if Mr Toad has any mates. Regards Mike
