I'm a 45 year old wife of nearly 24 years, mama to two beautiful daughters (20 & 17 years old) and soon-to-be Granny for the first time! I am mama to 5 fur babies (3 cats & 2 dogs.) I'm a wannabe homesteader and hippy. I love anything to do with being outside ..... gardening, camping, boating, swimming, etc. I also enjoy music, reading, crafting (many things, but especially "use what you have" types of crafts), birding and working on my home & property.

My family and I have lived on our nearly 2 acres of rural property for almost 7 years. While I love my "gardens", with the busy life we lead they tend to be "works-in-progress".

Welcome to GT, Chris. If you are from Virginia, I gather that your land is ready for planting now. Would that be correct? I am from Canada, where it definitely is NOT ready. We will have to wait another 2 months for most crops. What is your favourite type of gardening? Feel free to jump right in to the discussions. Photos are always appreciated. :)

Hi, jroot and thanks for the welcome. :0) Yes, we are heading into planting season here. I learned to garden from my grandmother and grandfather, who were old fashioned gardeners. You know, plant what will grow and what you like. So, that’s my style of gardening. I plant what I like and what I think will grow. Very casual and laid back. I live on a heavily wooded lot with a few sunny spots, so that kind of dictates what I can grow also. I will take some photos here today. I’m headed out to plant a few forsythia in my forsythia bed and move some hostas before the rain comes in later today.

What type pf gardening do you do in Canada? How long is your growing season? I read your profile and want to check out your projects and such later today. That birdhouse on your profile page is really neat!
