Last week I posted a link to one of the many videos created by Dave Wilson Nurseries talking about backyard gardening. After watching one, I had to watch them all. They are full of information and presented in a way that is easy to follow and, for me, left me thinking, “hey, I can do this!”

This is my last update in the month of April. The growth has been great. I’ve had some failures, but the overall experience has been wonderful. It feels good just to walk outside and see all of this growing right outside my front door. The kids are also very involved and have been great sharing the watering duties with me. They also like to help me pick the ripe strawberries and salad greens that we have been gathering every few days.

In mid-January this year, I decided to set a goal to loose 50lbs by the end of 2012 by eating healthier and staying active (I hate making New Years Resolutions, so I waited until January 10th to make mine).
I quit eating fast food cold turkey. Drastically cut down on red meat (though I haven’t completely eliminated it from my diet yet), cut down on dairy, and limited carbs to whole grains and complex carbs (9 grain wheat bread, whole wheat tortillas, etc.)

As I look at living green-er I find myself on a slippery slope. Today, as I wrote about my home-made toothpaste and deodorant (see link below), I started thinking about the goal of less packaging and transportation costs.
