176 days ago by MsDebbieP | 16 comments »

March 11/10 Yesterday was my birthday (I am now a full-grown woman, according to Native beliefs) and my daughter gave me a gardening book. :) ”The Organic Garden” by Allan Shepherd It is a great book, filled with lots of gardening wisdom. It focuses on the UK but gardening strategies are gardening strategies. It is written with a sense of humour and a bit of poetic flare. This would be a perfect book for someone thinking about starting a garden, walking you through the sp...

I posted it on Lumberjocks, so I thought I would add a mention here as well for those who might be interested. Once I get that done, I can get back to the garden and get those weeds out. Unfortunately, there is a lot of bermuda grass. I am trying to keep the garden organic, or as much as possible. So, the...

This & That 2009 #3: Fruits (& Veggies) of our labour

402 days ago by XploreOrganics | 7 comments »

Things are doing pretty good here. We have been harvesting chinese cabbage for a few weeks now. The spinach is all harvested and I am planning on setting out a fall crop. 561 days ago by gardenorganic | 10 comments »

The Economic Bad News continues to mount. Food prices are up. Companies are laying off employees. Housing prices are slumping. During hard times people tend to take care of the home front. One of the ways to help make ends meet is to start growing some of your own organic food. Growing a simple vegetable garden can save hundreds of dollars in food costs. For example, consider lettuce. You can pay $3/ head for an organic looseleaf lettuce in the grocery store. You can also spend the same $3...

Harvest Time...Recipes #23: Easy Chickpea Pudding

616 days ago by XploreOrganics | 0 comments »

Chick-Pea Pudding In Newfoundland it is common to have peas-pudding (yellow split peas) with a cooked dinner. However the soaking and boiling is time-consuming. I have created a cross between traditional peas-pudding and Hummus that is delicious served hot or cold with any dinner. And can even be used as a dip. 1 large can of organic chick peas¼ small onion1 clove garlic Salt, pepper(lots) and butter to taste. Simmer the chickpeas, onion and garlic until warm and all liquid...
