I can’t believe how long it has been since I’ve posted here, and I can’t believe how fast the summer has flown by. I’ve had house-loads of house guests to keep me busy and entertained. And, I’ve been busy…
I’ve had not-so-summery summer weather, making some gardening things great (like corn not having to water much) and others (like tomatoes and cucumbers) awful.

Today is relatively warm in Seattle for February. It may be 40F out. But, it is also raining. In my garden coaching business I don’t have much choice about whether to go out and work in gardens when it is cold and wet. A few years ago I was invited to participate in HGTV’s Landscaper’s Challenge. Although I have my own company, Garden Mentors, I do take subcontracted design work from time-to-time. My connection to the show came with a company for whom I do design work from time-to-time.

Day one involved some assembly of the hydroponic garden. Total time, about an hour to assemble, fill it up with water, insert the seed pods, and plug it in.
On day three the basil poked up. Within 10 days everything had sprouted, but was too small (or too bright) to capture with my camera, even on the macro setting. The dill didn’t appear until about half of the herbs showed up, and took off to an early lead (just to spite me, I don’t like dill). But in time the chives have...
