The nights are getting a bit cooler now and September is right around the corner. As I gaze out into my yard I am realizing that this is really the tail end of my flowers and their beautiful colors. Summer is quickly coming to an end.
When hubby and I went away on our latest vacation, I had expected to come home to the dreary task of beginning to put my gardens to “bed”. A task that I hate because I know fall is basically here and winter not far behind.
As we approached the ...

Well the mulch was delivered today. 8 scoops, which breaks down to 4 pickup truck loads. It’s rather fun to play in, love the smell.
For size, and a side shot of the pile. Stuff in the back is a wetvac and a vanity that are going to be picked up as trash.
I’d also been working for the last two nights to cover the flower bed along the back and side of the fence. Because the back was pre-planted, I needed to cut wholes in the cardboard for the plants. That was a trip.

I decided that I’m going to post pictures of the daylilies first blooms throughout the year.
Since I’d skipped a day, this is yesterdays first bloom.
Isolde
Now, some times the first blooms are not the best and may be slightly deformed, like the petal on the first one is halved. It happens on firsts. Just use your imagination on what the whole thing looks like. ;)
Anyway, on with the show.

This is our first house and we are thrilled to be able to garden, but it is a lot of work. This is what we have done so far, since we both work it’s taking a bit of time. We are also on a tight budget so we are growing every single thing from seed.
Some pictures:

Well, as I promised I’m posting pics of the new clumps, fresh out of the ground..
I hauled these home in my car. With some creative placement it only took 3 trips.
A trunk full.. I can average 5 clumps in the trunk, 3 in the back seat and one in the front.
The aftermath of the transport.. This is why they make shop-vacs. ;)
All in all, it’s 25-28 clumps.. I lost track, actually.. Grand total? $110.

Today in bloom, is nothing less, than a plain old ditch lily. These will be finding their way OUT of the flowerbeds, before they take over and kill us all.
These are the new addition clumps that we picked up today, plus some Hosta and one of those plants which has huge, sticky flowers.. The name escapes me at this moment.
Clump of iced jade
Background, peaches and cream, plus some others.
And more..
And more…....
The Hosta I picked up.
On...
