Inside Garden #4: Christmas 2013

12-22-2013 09:57 AM by nitepagan | 2 comments »

I got some pictures to show. I have 5 peppers growing on my 2 New Ace (F1) Pepper plants, with a possible 6th pepper starting. Pepper plants are self pollinating, but require cool nighttime temperatures. I have reduced the heat in the grow room and added a room size humidifier, this has been enough to get some peppers growing. Until I got the new light fixture there was a bit of over crowding, so some stuff has become more leggy than should have happened. The lights are enough to k...

Shade Garden

05-21-2013 09:32 PM by LeonB | 4 comments »

OK, so garden may be a bit of an exaggeration. It’s certainly not the sprawling woodland retreat that’s growing in the backyard of my mind, but it’s a start. I’m learning that patience is a tool every gardener needs in his or her shed. This lovely terracotta pot (that believe it or not someone threw in the trash) contains an Ostrich Fern,a Japanese Painted Fern, & ???If anyone knows the name of the flowering plant in the front please tell me. It was given to me as ...

The weather not to good here today for much but its not pouring. I am thankful for that and the fact that its on and off. I have lived in Oregon for 26 years and if you don’t take the rain with the sun then you might as well move out of state. People here get out and do what ever they need to do for the day come rain or shine. I love it here its one of the most beautiful states in the US:) I can’t handle the pour downs but I don’t mine the sprinkle days in fact I kinda like ...

My Organic Garden Oasis #8: Chapter Eight - May 2, 2012

05-09-2012 01:07 PM by Retsof | 3 comments »

Hi fellow GardenTenders, This video is from May 2, 2012 with some still photos taken on May 2, 3, & 4, 2012. With this update, I’m finally all caught up editing the footage that I shot before I found (via Lumberjocks) and started this blog. From here on out, I’ll try to keep the updates shorter and get them posted closer to the date they were filmed. I’m surprised at how much footage I have collected already. Lately, it has felt like it took...

My Organic Garden Oasis #1: Day One - March 14, 2012

05-06-2012 01:18 PM by Retsof | 5 comments »

In mid-January this year, I decided to set a goal to loose 50lbs by the end of 2012 by eating healthier and staying active (I hate making New Years Resolutions, so I waited until January 10th to make mine). I quit eating fast food cold turkey. Drastically cut down on red meat (though I haven’t completely eliminated it from my diet yet), cut down on dairy, and limited carbs to whole grains and complex carbs (9 grain wheat bread, whole wheat tortillas, etc.) My rules for the diet a...

GT Challenges #6: All Boxed In

04-03-2012 02:20 PM by MsDebbieP | 7 comments »

April 3/12 Well? Are you ready for another challenge?   Get a box, any box, and transform it into a mini garden.Maybe you will have a shoe box garden or a lunch box garden or, a little outside the box, so to speak, a dresser drawer box garden. Maybe it will be a box of flowers for the deck, or maybe some indoor plants, or maybe a little “salad” in a box, with lettuce and chives. Let your imagination run wild and then put it in a box, a mini garden box, that is! ...

Growing My Way to Freedom #18: Dwarf Meyer Lemon Tree

07-25-2010 07:04 AM by Radicalfarmergal | 22 comments »

I do not garden in containers extensively. I find that plants in containers dry out faster than the plants in the ground and I don’t always find time to water them, with disappointing results. I have made exceptions for special plants that must come in for the winter (e.g. our dwarf pomegranate and avocado trees) or in temporary situations while a plant grows big enough to go into the ground (tree seedlings). Recently, I have acquired more plants that have ended up in containers so I have ...

Container Gardening #1: "Digging" Container Gardening

01-31-2010 04:00 PM by Brad | 15 comments »

Why would I container garden? Good question! Suppose you were in this predicament: You resided in an apartment, or maybe you live in a condo with no yard space? What if you were like so many gardeners who actually have a great garden space, but just need “a little something” on the front porch? A container garden is exactly what you need. Many gardeners will even strategically add containers to their flower garden or amidst their flower beds, just to fill a void that nothing...
