Today, we moved our Silverbells tree. Originally I had planted a Silverbells by the road along with my other Carolinian trees. It died. The next one I planted near the house so I could keep an eye on it. It is now 3 years old I think.
But, we also put a cherry tree by the house (good planning, huh?) so the Silverbells had to be moved. So back down to the original location it went. I had read somewhere, when I first got the tree, that they don’t like to be moved. I’...

This morning I watched a starling go into one of the birdhouses in our backyard. A second starling sat nearby.
Soon the starling came back out of the birdhouse with something in its beak. It dropped the “whatever” to the ground, cleaned its beak and went back into the birdhouse.
The spring cleaning processes was repeated several times while I watched. I guess the couple have chosen their new home.

Well, we finally got the mighty birdhouse up! Last winter, Rick spent many hours puttering around with this birdhouse. He had to bring it up from the basement in 2 pieces. I think there are 54 apartments.
This week we finally were ready to put it up. Rick dug the hole, and cut the telephone to the desired length (leftover piece is now a sculpture in my gardens).
But.. a dilemma—the pole weighs about 300 lbs. and the birdhouse weighs about 200 lbs. We thought we could ...

Rick finished his birdhouse today and is now sitting on top of one of our sheds. Thanks to John for the plans.
