Hello all and let me introduce myself.I’m a guy with too many hobbies/interests and I do a bit of gardening poorly too.I have a small attached greenhouse 12’ x 24’ where I over winter some of my friends and start a few annuals for our short summers.As gardening is a constant endeavor, I can show you my start with a shade garden along side of my house . My yard consists of what I affectionately call my rock gardens. One rock garden I am rather fond of and would like to improve. The other needs to disappear quicky leaving an attractive and inexpensive alternative in it’s wake.

This is what it looked like last summer.For a while now I have been hearing a voice coming from under the snow. Each day I have been shoveling a little bit more and a little bit more and today there was loud voices and excitement as I broke through that last little bit of snow.This is my front yard and the snow is about 5 feet deep.

Wow I haven’t been on here in forever, alot has been going on and changing. Our chickens arrived, we’ve built a chicken coop, been planting and digging and transplanting oh my. Andy worked briefly in February with a nursery here in town, and so we have added a few things from there. Namely my new saucer magnolia :D. I’ve put in more rose bushes on the side of the hosue, and so far my black and white garden is just a white garden, but I am pleased with it. This weekend I...

This morning in my “thinking time” an idea came to me: I wonder if anyone in SW Ontario would like to do a fieldtrip to ‘Canning Perennials when it opens up. I’ve never been there (even though it is only 1/2 hour from my home) and this year is the year for me to stop by.

Reason I say that they are evil is because of their marketing. They market their site so well it’s hard to resist making a purchase. The vegetables that we are growing in containers are doing extremely well (and growing incredibly fast—we planted them just a week ago). As we are both new to vegetables, we are continually amazed. Like I said, they are growing in peat pods in window sills, but they are quickly outgrowing these. The Dill started coming back from being chopped down to nothing, but with a little elbow room, the Cilantro has pretty much taken over. I”m not kidding, when I say I have to trim it a little every day or two.
