My Current and Future Gardening Projects #15: Too Long

21 days ago by Me In Brackens Meadow | 2 comments »

Well its not been the quiet Summer I had planned for, but it never is. Had to get a new computer then some other things happened, anyway hoping for a quiet Autumn. I know I am a bit early for that but I am ready for it. Let me update some stuff for you. Homemade Bird Feeder: Still works like a charm but the birds are not having much interest in the food anymore. ??Container Gardens: Still beautiful, dying off for the change in weather though, they say its going to be outrageous hot ...

My First Garden #7: Blossoms

21 days ago by Roostermiester | 4 comments »

I was out taking some pics of the garden the other day and thought I’d post a couple blossom shots. The pumpkins only open in the morning. You can see a couple watermelons stariting to fatten up next to them. The sunflowers have started to sag and shrivle, I think due to the cucumbers blocking their sun, but the smaller blossoms are still looking happy.

Eating from the Garden #3: Greens and Beans

23 days ago by Harold and Pam | 6 comments »

How’s about some southern cook’n of greens and beans!! Collard Greens and Asian “Yard Long” Beans to be more specific. Now I’m from upstate New York and don’t know much about Collard Greens – Pam is from Florida and doesn’t care much for Collards… so why not plant a few and see what happens. Well first thing that happened was they grew – and the grew BIG! So big that Pam stripped the leaves off of two plants and cut the stalk down to the ground ...

Eating from the Garden #1: Little Carrots - BIG Taste!!

23 days ago by Harold and Pam | 7 comments »

I know we can all agree that eating from the garden is so very gratifying. Here are some little carrots we enjoyed in salad and also in fried rice. This was Pam’s first attempt at growing carrots. Here in Florida, they went in around March and we began bringing them to the table in June. The “Red Cored Chantenay” carrots are a small variety that are packed with flavor. Being only our first planting, we did not know what to expect. When I first cut into them and saw the littl...

Garden Fresh Veggies.....

24 days ago by Iris43 | 11 comments »

for supper tonight! Just came in from the garden and thought these look good enough for a picture. :) The big red tomato is the first Amish paste I’ve got, so I am really looking forward to tasting it. The carrots and beets are small but I just took the ones that were getting crowded to make room for the others to get bigger. I love the little ones, they are so tender. I’ve had loads of cherry tom., even given them away so they don’t go to waste. Please note the...

Someone recently challenged us to beat their huge weed. ....

26 days ago by jroot | 6 comments »

I don’t recall who it was, but recently someone challenged us to find a weed as big as theirs. I wish that I could find it, but I believe it was more than a month ago. At any rate, I measured my jewelweed today, and it measures out at 7 foot 2 inches, and it is still growing. Some people call it a Himalyan Impatiens, but it is clearly a weed, albeit a pretty one. The bumble bees LOVE it, as they can get right inside of it. We have to be careful of it, because it shoots off seed ...
