This morning in my “thinking time” an idea came to me: I wonder if anyone in SW Ontario would like to do a fieldtrip to ‘Canning Perennials when it opens up. I’ve never been there (even though it is only 1/2 hour from my home) and this year is the year for me to stop by.
They welcome group tours and one of the favoured times is early May when the spring wildflowers are up. The centre opens the end of April sometime (that’s when online orders ...

For this one, we had a few of the early season jars of apple sauce that didn’t quite work out right and had turned a bit at the top. We’d water bathed them (learned, it’s needed) to break the cycle which was fine, but I figured we’d just pull them, scoop the top and make apple butter out of the rest.

They were just begging to have “their” picture taken … so pretty and “sparkling” in the afternoon sunlight.
Gaillaridas are also called Blanket Flowers. They need well drained soil and plenty of sun. “Oranges and Lemons” are very prolific. They can handle poor soil conditions, summer humidity and winter cold.18-24” high x 15-18” wide; Perennial in zones 5-9.

The last two days of July brought out an increase in butterfly activity in our gardens. Sitting on the front porch these lepidopterans provided hours of entertainment as they winged from one butterfly bush to another.

Well all my hard work last year is paying off, I had dug up all my strawberries, removed all grass roots, arranged them all back into rows. Only 1 1/2 months on my knees to get everything done. Now this year I have so far gotten 38 quarts of strawberries of my patch. And they are still coming.

Last weekend we went to an artist’s place down some back road and I came home with these beauties:
(It’s a 4 foot high set of leaves, and 3’ high cattails and on the bottom right is a snail.)I bought them to sit by the pond but when I got them home I realized that I don’t really have space around the pond to stick them in the ground. So, I moved them to the other side of the path. They are still close to the pond so I think it woks.
The artist...

He isn’t here yet! In July, is when he will join us with is lady friends (four of them)! So, hubby is building him a coop!”The South Mountain Chicken High Rise”
The plan is to surround it with a fence and on the south side of it to do the garden!(also surrounded by a fence!)Even though we are the long weekend in may, you can tell that the garden is not here yet. We will be growing the tomatoes (hubby that is) on the side bed!
As of this morning:
