If you’re not ready to run out and buy seed envelopes, make your own beautiful seed envelopes by recycling that xmas papper…Great fun on a stormy evening for the whole family.
Beautiful christmas paper should not end up in the landfill. It is always exciting to see the lovely handmade envelopes that get sent to me when trading seeds.
I sketched up a diagram on how you can make your own simple self-closing seed pocket.
Enjoy!

So you’ve decided to fill your garden with joyful chickens…Here are a few tips on raising chickens naturally…Happy healthy chickens make for healthy eggs and less hassle.
Shelter:
Chickens will need adequate shelter. This will depend on your climate and predators. Chickens will need a draft-free dry coop with adequate ventilation. If your climate is cold a heat source should be available for winter. A solid concrete floor or a raised coop are ideal as this will ma...

There are many reasons to save seeds from your garden. Aside from biotechnology arguments that are making the news and the fact it can save money; the bottom line for saving seeds is because you have a plant you love and want to grow it again or share it with others.
Seed catalogs offer limited seeds. Saving and sharing seeds from around the world gives you a better opportunity to find unusual varieties.
Seed saving is not only simple and rewarding; it gives you something to do du...

Every year I put many of my house plants outside for the summer and bring them in come fall. My Christmas cactus always buds up as the days get shorter and cooler. If I bring it inside too soon many of the buds stop developing and drop off. This year, I left it until the last minute and then put it in my unheated garage for a couple weeks. Last week I finally brought it into the house, still putting it in an unused room in the house that just has natural light (no lights in the evening). ...

This morning, I looked out to the pond to find it covered in a layer of ice. Brr. it’s cold.
It’s interesting to watch our two fish continuing on about their day under the ice… the fun part, however, was just now (noon-ish) watching half a dozen sparrows bathing in the little corner of the pond that was open water.
I wish I could have gotten a picture.

What better time to plan for next year’s season than when you are are just wrapping up the current year’s gardens? The list of what went where this year, what worked and what didn’t, and what you loved vs what wasn’t inspiring is all fresh in your mind!
For 2009 at MsDebbieP’s House:
plant a second apple tree, getting better odds of a good harvest, if one tree doesn’t produce (tree already planted)
move rhubarb, allowing more room by the shed (use ...
