So what do you do when there are still tomatoes on the vines but frost is coming in fast? Well, you do a mad dash harvest run!
So, now that you have so many green cherry tomatoes, what then? Why, whip up a batch of green cherry tomato pickles!
Was the wifes’ idea to do that… Still got plenty of tomatoes on hand however, so tomorrow I’m going to dig up everything I need to make some green (and some red) tomato ketchup. :)
Still got plenty of figs on the f...

It seems I’ve ran out of time in trying to beat the cold. This room is getting to be a bit too chilly for my taste. I’d resorted to plugging in the large oil heater to help offset some of the cold.
On the bright side, the storm door I ordered from Lowes came in and we picked it up yesterday along with some OSB sub floor so that I can put flooring into the attic space.
Spent a few hours yesterday installing the door, a 8500 Pella roll screen door in cranberry with oil rubbed ...

This morning was Bonfire Breakfast. Bright and early (7 AM) family arrived to enjoy our “traditional” bonfire breakfast together.
Ok, so the sky wasn’t bright – but it was early! Actually, it was pitch black out and we had the privilege of experiencing Mother Nature’s washing of the world (yes, it was a rainy morning).
Our gazebo (that we had built for such weather conditions) is currently holding some big gourds during their drying proc...

When queried on his many attempts at constructing a working light bulb, Thomas Edison replied by describing them not as failures but as learning so many ways how not to make a light bulb. With this in mind, my gardens would have to be considered fairly successful.
Once again things got away from me. Although I believe I got farther along this year than in those past. Each test shows me more and more things that can be applied in years to come. At some point you have to use what you have an...

So…today after working with my residents’ in long term care and doing HT (horticultural therapy)programming, I felt the desire to go to Chapters for new material. I found and purchased (couldn’t resist) Mark Cullen’s fairly new publication “Sandbox of a different kind” and after only a few pages am quite anxious to read on….To quote from his introduction: “We live in exciting times, with limitless potential to change our world quickly and for ...

I woke up to a very heavy frost this morning, but ventured outside with my camera and tripod to take some frosty photos of the milkweed plant.
These photos were taken with my other digital camera, an Olympus SP 55OUZ using the macro setting.

I was putting closure on “My Garden” page for this summer and realized this was one of the most enjoyable summers I have had gardening in a long time. What dawned on me was how this forum and the people on it affected my whole summer. It was like whenever I was outside you were all with me … sharing my joys, excitement and best of all inviting me “over for some ice tea” and to see your beautiful gardens and projects.
You folk inspired me to begin thinking outs...

For a few mornings we have been waking up to frost.
But when the sun comes up it makes everything sparkle.
Walking on the deck and down the steps became a slow step by step process as it was slippery. Holding onto the railing going down the stair I could feel the frost.
I never seem to miss a photo opportunity so I snapped some photos of frosty leaves and blooms.
I’ve criopped this last photo and made it into a new header for my blog to use for awhile.
