What a difference a week makes:
last week:
this week:
The chives are almost touching the light, and it looks like I’ve got to prune the basil a bit. The idea is to keep all the herbs growing at about the same height before I raise the light. Looks like the mint and parsley need a little help. The dill on the other hand is doing too well – just to spite me. (I don’t care for dill). It’s starting to fill in the spaces between its neighbors. It better not touch t...

The Helleborus Plant commonly called “The Christmas Rose” or “Lenten Rose” is fast becoming one of my all time favorites. It’s a beautiful perennial that makes an awesome indoor plant as well.
Initially inside keep them in a cool place, with a bright sunlight, but not direct. They like their soil moist, but not wet. Once established, they will tolerate a little more dryness and warmer conditions. Fertilize in the spring/fall. However do not fertilize in the he...

Well, I was reminded how bad I am with road names … Bullseye used Google and it sent him across country, which is fine, but I wasn’t much help in getting him from there to here using the road names! Sigh..
Anyway, I got to meet my first GT in person and the bulbs have changed hands.
Bullseye, it was nice meeting you and you so kindly ignored the fact that you had to get directions from a third party and couldn’t rely on me. haha.
(Now, in my defense, the directions ...

So you’ve decided to fill your garden with joyful chickens…Here are a few tips on raising chickens naturally…Happy healthy chickens make for healthy eggs and less hassle.
Shelter:
Chickens will need adequate shelter. This will depend on your climate and predators. Chickens will need a draft-free dry coop with adequate ventilation. If your climate is cold a heat source should be available for winter. A solid concrete floor or a raised coop are ideal as this will ma...

Day one involved some assembly of the hydroponic garden. Total time, about an hour to assemble, fill it up with water, insert the seed pods, and plug it in.
On day three the basil poked up. Within 10 days everything had sprouted, but was too small (or too bright) to capture with my camera, even on the macro setting. The dill didn’t appear until about half of the herbs showed up, and took off to an early lead (just to spite me, I don’t like dill). But in time the chives have...

right now it is covered in leaves, this is also my little apple tree. You can see the bulbs I hadn’t planted yet and the jasmine, I don’t think the jasmine made it but we will see. But you can see why I can’t wait for spring, everything is so dry and awful looking.

When we moved into our new home I quickly realized that we may have bought this land but we were not the owners. I had plunked my house in natures habitat. This is why it is important to me to have a natural habitat for the critters that called this place home before I invaded.
While looking out my front door at the gravel heap which will become my front lawn, a little squirrel hopped up on the deck and peered back at me. I went to the fridge and grabbed an almond and placed it on the s...
